I've been to Life-Like's web site and there is NO mention of any NEW FA1's in N-scale. I'm sure what you are seeing is Old FA1's that are custom painted and I'd bet they don't have a new drive in them. One of our hobby shops here in Sydney has had a pre-release reservation notice up on their board for the last 3+ months announcing the FA-1A/B by Life-Like. It states the release as November 2000. Aww gee Brent, those couldn't be the old units with new or custom paint jobs cause LL hasn't done them yet.The first ones they did were FA-2s.The new ones are FA-1s.But at least there will be another Alco on thge market.
