    Hey all,
trying to finish my big projects. Got a lgb locomotive with a direct decoder. I just purchased a loksound xl decoder. Will this plug right into the board or do I need a wiring harness? Thanks!

What loco? Part number? Does the tag say MTS?
I know MTS equipped are part of the main light/sound board....power to sound and lights feeds out of it. Pain in the buttinski to use with radio/battery, generally involves a full cut and throw.

From what I read, if it's "direct decoder" it has a socket of some sort...
See sticker 3. They list specifics, and you LokSound ain't one of them.
    10 pin...what's the LokSound?
What version of XL did you buy? 3.5 is screw terminals, 4.0 is pins.
Both have far more than the usual 10-pin LGB units.

Supposedly these can connect directly to it and can run off ac,dc,dcc or cards can be used for RC! I wont be laying track till fall and may just go RC. With our drought and high heat its too much but can do this in the AC lol

You mean you paid good money for a decoder to plug in and it didn't have sound built in?
You either need to go to the same outfit and find one that plug into that or plugs in line.
The one with the plugs looks like the original LGB board. Not enough photos of the other to see any plugs.
If no plugs, what is the special part of the decoder that you had to use it?

so...you didn't get the Loksound decoder you were looking for?
I recognized at least one of those boards.
Unless you find sound decoders with those sockets, you had better learn how to cut, solder, use an ohmmeter, and hard-wire them in.
LGB has never made it easy unless you did it their way, with their stuff, at their price.
    Cut and throw.

Know how to do both. From what I heard lgb made wire harnesses so you can keep the decoder and add on.

    "made" is the key word.
"have" may be a word currently missing from the lexicon.

Massoth made most of that stuff, but after the original LGB implosion, that arrangement has changed somewhat.

FAR easier, and cheaper, to cut and throw...hard-wire it in, than to find plug and pray stuff specific for the application.

No need to isolate the trucks though correct?
