Interesting.... The two pics of C997 seem to have the roof beacon in two diferent places. 1st shot (Keith) it appears to be at the "back" (far away fron long-hood). 2nd shot (Hemi) it appears to be at the "front" (close to the long hood) of the cab. Did the loco get a rebuilt cab or am I just seeing things?
I think these are 2 totally different locos. Look at the radiator grille arrangement on the hood roof, the cab roof prifile difference. I think that keith's photo may be C991? The numberboard is tough to read--Keith, can you look at the hi-res shot to verify?
Here's a Paul Graf shot of C991: http://www.locophotos.com/pix/35/Coors%20Brewing%20Company%20CORX%20991_Aurora%20CO_Paul%20Graf_2006-08-10_35467.jpg Looks like that Keith shot this one again!
A quick look around the net finds that the number, C997, has been on two different locomotives. One is an SW1000 and one an SW8. Don't know much else. Maybe they renumbered them at some point?
The shot that Hemi posted is the newest locomotive to the roster. An EMD SW1000. Mine was shot several years ago, through the windows overlooking the tracks, during a brewery tour. I'm also not quite sure if the unit I posted was the 1st C997, or if it's actually the C987. I can't quite see the numbersboards to make sure, and the other angle I have is no better! I have a Mike Danneman article in a recent magazine that includes a locomotive roster. Will see if I can find it and posat roster info.
Chesapeake and Ohio, two great ones, the 1604, an Allegheny, 2-6-6-6, and the famous 614, 4-8-4. Both taken at the B&O museum back in 1995. I like the 614's looks with the headlight centered, but doubt she ever ran like that. Anyone know?

1886?!?!? So C&NW invented the SD45 80 years before EMD did? And to think everyone else was using 4-4-0's....
My wife likes Chessie the cat so much, we have a cat so named. Naturally, she lit up when she saw these in Cheyenne! Chessie System:
Canadian Pacific. This outstanding photo is from our member Keith Schmidt, who caught the only TRUE steam doubleheader to operate in years, the Canadian Pacific Hudson 2816 and Milwaukee Road Northern 261, September 15 in Minnesota. NO diesels, NO canteens, a doubleheader as was meant to be. Great photo, Keith. Please visit Keith's site on Railimages, you won't be disappointed. More wonderful photos like this one.
