That's one sad looking rack, Steve! I guess these come thru Cheyenne sometimes, but this was my first sighting of one!
Me neither, caught it while waiting on the DS to give permission to UP 844 to occupy the mainline a few weeks ago....
CN was still running a few open racks back in 2000...this was shot at Marion OH. Are these still running now?
You gotta have something to load & unload those racks- here's what Frisco used: Shot this in Sherman, TX around 1990 or so.
Somehow I managed to repeat Martyns post. I just wanted to say that I managed to peel off the side sheathing on an open auto rack several years ago during a switching move that turned sour. Dunno 'bout this particular car, but most of the open racks I've seen were used to transport used vehicles and the side sheathing was a heavy guage plastic material. Didn't damage any auto, just the plastic sheathing on the rack, some paint, a couple of bent grabirons and a lumber rack that got some chipped 2 x4's. The subsequent investigation came to naught and was dropped. CT
Guess this is as good a place as any to ask this. How are the automobiles are placed in those “racks”?
This is a WIA 5 unit articulated bilevel car carrier set, they tend to get used for higher value vehicles such as Jaguar's.
