Hello all well last Saturday in the clouds we took an excursion on the LC&S RR for the History train. A fantastic day was had by all even if it was ony 40 when we arrived in Leadville. The train ride was great with one of their GP9's pushing and pulling the way. Great history and followed up with a round house tour and some items that I have never seen or heard of before. I shot about 104 pictures and the Sun was not our friend but I have some great shots of a fun day on the rails. I will be posting more as I get the pictures cleaned up and I even have a see if you can guess what this is picture of an item that I have never seen before.

Only 40*? Leadville is about 5 miles from Malta, right? It sits about 10,200' elevation.... This line heads to Climax, right? I'm guessing that line is much higher in elevation than Leadville is?

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed riding Leadville last September on my first Colorado rail fanning Leadville-Cumbres-Durango loop. Thank goodness it wasn't 40 degrees back then! Three of my pics of Leadville, with aspens in full fall color, are on this web page in the top-left and top-center snaps. :shade:

Karl, welcome aboard! Sure glad to see another steam fan here. Great pix of Colorado steam. I assume that is you in some of the pix, with the big grin. :teeth:

That would be me,... the one with the cinders in my toothy grin! :shade:

This September's Colorado rain fanning trip has only 50% steam... or maybe less: Pike's Peak cog, Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek, and (maybe if ALL the wheels haven't fallen off by then,...) Georgetown Loop. :lightning:

They call this the "high line" Its a great ride up on the side of the hill. It was initally narrow gauge but that was all pulled up for standard. A lot of history and train wrecks along this 14 miles. The route used to go all the way to a load out I belive but most of that track is gone past the wavy picture I posted. There is talk about re-opening some tracks back to the Climax mine when it reopens in 2008 or 2009.
