Over in the Yahoo discussion groups there has been quite a bit of discussion concerning KCS being merged into BNSF. Any opinions out there on the likelihood of this, etc.? BNSF is ok, better than uncle pete by a long shot, but I still think it would be a great loss to railfans and the industry if KCS was to disappear.
This has made the rounds in the group KCSNotes, and IMO it's a rumor. Now I agree that the marriage of KCS and BNSF would be a good match, but I don't expect it any time soon, as Mike Haverty is still committed to making KCS an international road (US to Mexico) by getting full control of TFM.
How much duplication of rail service is there at present, BNsf and KCS? If this would ever happen, you could certainly expect another round of abandonments........ Boxcab E50
