A couple of executive trains would be nice. BN with the F's and E-unit. BNSF can run any modern power that they produce. KSC in southern bell paint would be cool, NS with modernized heavyweights maybe even produce 4-8-4 #611 too.

I have a 7 and 15 y/o, hell even a wife, that would love to see Harry Potter passing through the layout. Thomas and Percy have threatened appearances too!

How about the Congressional and Senator? Many of the cars for the two trains were in a common pool, so both could be released simultaneously. Also, the Tuscan GG-1's were originally painted that way to pull these trains. Of course, it would also be a good reason to produce the silver GG-1's, along with NH power for the through trip to Boston.

Lets see... Kato has a good PA PB set... Misouri Pacific had a train called the Colorado Eagle. Do any of the currently produced Kato passenger cars fit the Eagle consist?

It would be neither an East or West coast train... ;)

Not many, however that does not seem to be a criteria for these Kato passenger trains coming out lately. Most all of them have brand new tooling for all the cars. Even the California Zephyr set used mostly different cars from the older CB&Q Budd cars that they had already done. The Super Chief, Daylight, Broadway Ltd. and the El Capitain were all new tooling. The original smooth side cars only seem to be released in UP trains or GN Empire Builder sets any more.

Kato has already produced the correct numbered E units for the executive fleet. I wonder if they'll produce them again.

    The E8s would work also.
many of mopacs cars were built by ACF.

    E8's...

Very true... the E8A's had the regular four portholes... whereas the E7A's had the unique five porthole arrangement. Problem is that the Colorado Eagle usually had a six porthole E7B in between the two E8A's. That's why I'd lean more towards a PA/PA set instead... since its unlikely we'll ever sse E7's from Kato... specially ones as unique as the MoPac ones.

BTW... I forgot that they MoPac didn't have PB units... they would use E7B's. Another problem with getting 'true' MoPac passenger cars is that most of the Eagle cars had portholes on them as well. So... that makes it even less likely for an Eagle to be done by Kato.

Of course there is always a chance Fox Valley would do a Colorado Eagle... ;)

I don't think it would be that impossible, the passenger cars in Kato's recent passenger trains are all new tooling and mostly unique to those roads so MP's passenger cars shouldn't be any different, and a porthole E7B ,or A unit for that matter, shell to fit their E8 mechanism wouldn't be any harder to make than a passenger car shell.

I don't think the uniqueness of a model or whether it can be done with existing tooling or need to be done completely from scratch has anything to do with what Kato will do next.

I have to admit that I'm more excited by the paint and lettering than actually getting the consist right. I have several custom-painted trains based on the old-old smoothside cars: ON Northlander (selling that one), BN executive, Conrail executive, 1996 Olympic train, CNJ, Reading, Alaska, Hiawatha (purty!), GN in blue/white.

I even have some for Penn Central! If I mix in some of the standard schemes KATO made I can make a really convincing early-Amtrak mashup of PRR/NYC/PC cars, Holy 1972!

I'm selling off a lot of these over time, and buying the new Broadway Ltd of course. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate attention to detail, I just don't need it to make me happy. (usually)

I like too many railroads, but I love PRR CNJ and Reading. If you see me buying other stuff, smack me. ........

Maybe Kato should rerun their standard smoothside cars in various roadnames as something like Atlas's Trainman line. I can't see a problem with them not being correct for some prototypes as long as the fact is acknowledged and they are not passed off as being correct. They could probably offer them at a lower price as the tooling should be starting to pay for itself by now. There would be a lot of schemes they could do, N&W comes to my mind, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who would just like a nice train to run behind their Spectrum J class.

I reasoned that Kato probably would not do certain models because the uniqueness of the locomotives and/or rolling stock would not lend them to be re-used on other consists. The logic for doing many of the sets they've already done is that they can re-issue new sets with different number/named cars OR they can use the same tooling on another roadname consist for several cars even if they have to do some brand new tooling for a few cars. The arguement against that would be the Morning Daylight and the Broadway Limited... since many of those cars are unique to those roads. Of course... they can run numerous different sets using the same tooling with different color schemes (Sunset Limited and Amtrak for instance).

I hope you're wrong about Kato doing E7s. They already have the mechanism, so it would just be a matter of tooling the shell. If/when they get around to releasing a true empire builder, they may be tempted to release E7s in that very attractive and unique GN paint scheme (IIRC, those GN E7s went through two or three changes to the paint before being retired). Although they didn't last long on the EB, Kato has tended to release these trains in their early/original configurations, so E7s may fit the bill. I don't believe the Great Dome Lounges were added until some later point. Goat fans????

GN was a little late to adopt dome cars. I think the short domes showed up in Early 1955 and the full "Great" domes showed up later in the year. It would be GREAT if Kato would run a 1955 Empire Builder!

    thanks,

    Kevin

They could have legitimately reused the baggage car from the Super Chief in th El Capitan but we got a completely new car.

Does any one have a good reliable source to help our rumors, wishes or dreams? At any rate, I really hope its a City Streamliner. The El Capitan would be considered the 2009 train right? So in accordance with Kato's one named train, this year we should have a new train right?

I have been using Madame Reirale, a renowned fortune teller and psychic. So far her visions on this one are not yet clear.
