Good news! These are very interesting engines. Kato's official .pdf ad for these indicates 1977 - 1985 timeframe, but I know that is incorrect. My first train trip ever was Chicago to LA behind a trio of these in 1973.

Yeah.... that's what always seems to happen. You find something that is too cool to miss out on... then you get sucked into the vortex of the tornado of buying the supporting equipment for it. I 'used to be' a 1955 to 1969 era modeler. But... then the SD40-2T were announced... several autoracks... centerbeams... etc... latter... I'm up to about 1984. Oh... yeah... about all those cool steam lokies... sigh... yep... back down into the 1930's too. No discipline when cool stuff is made available in N scale.

This loco will make a nice addition to my Amtrak fleet.

Rick - I've been on the Kato email list for years and certainly agree with your recommendation to others to sign up. That said, I'm not sure what you're referring to in your post. The only "new" news that I am aware of is the formal announcement of the SDP40F's. Everything else that I've seen mentioned recently is old news. The ACS-64 was announced in May and I believe the Phase I High-levels came out with the yellow bonnets a year or so ago. What did I miss?

106-079, came out around 2013. The 2012 (2nd) El Capitan release was 106-077, the 2013 Super Chief was 106-078, the COLA was 106-080.

There seem to be plenty still available.

Norseman, I don't think you missed anything but the e-mail with the video information I shared here arrived Thursday, of this week. So, I thought I'd throw it out here and see how many fish we could catch. There was more information in the e-mail but this was the only usable part I could bring here.

I'm not an Amtrak fan and it feels funny to even be talking about. If this is old hat or old news well then it is what it is. Oops!

Here is a video of the 1:1 foot scale.

    Amtrak Limited Approach

Don't ever tell me they didn't run them that way. Grin!`

The first paragraph dated November 12, 2015 reads: Exciting news! You may be fortunate enough to be able to see the upcoming N Scale ACS-64 and Amfleet I cars in person before the full release shipment arrives at the end of this month!

More of this letter can be seen on Kato's website.
