I went to Kato site and there was some information of disassembly and reassembly of Kato N GG1.

I am hoping that I might get some more detailed maintenance tips on how to disassemble the truck assemblies to clean and if necessary install new traction tires.

    Thank you,
    Ed

Did you buy it new or used? I ask because Katos rarely need internal cleaning if nothing was purposely wrong done to them. They just run and run. I don't remember the last time I cleaned a Kato and I run all mine a train shows hours and hours on end.

I don't remember if mine comes with an exploded parts diagram in the box but you might check that first. Also check Spookshow's website for additional information. There is a picture there showing it all disassembled but I'm not sure if there are specific directions on how to do it.

I appreciate your reply I am contemplating buying a Kato GG1 used, the link you sent is helpful but little instruction on how to take the driving wheel assemble apart. These Kato's have two driving tires mounted on two of the 12 wheels. Sometimes these driving tires need to be replaced. In addition although the motor needs little if no care except for a few drops of oil now and then, the wheels do need to be cleaned and the worm gear sometimes will pickup dirt and also needs to be cleaned for the gears in the wheel assembly to move freely, these gears not only never need to be oiled but it is recommended not to oil the gear assembly with the exception of the worm gear.

    Thank you,
