Jumper plugs, dummy plugs, conversion plugs? Bachmann 2-8-0

Some years ago, I bought an N-scale Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 and liked it so much that I bought another. The second one was defective, so Bachmann sent me a replacement. This replacement 2-8-0 was the brand-new, fancy "dual-mode," meaning that it could be run with either DCC or DC. I wanted DC, and was unhappy with the glacially slow response of the new loco, but was told that that was all they had to give me.

Today I went back to my "dual-mode" loco to see if I could make peace with it and discovered that it no longer even runs in reverse. Looking around the Internet, I see that others have had this problem, as well as being unhappy with the "dual-mode" decoder. The solution, I'm reading, is to remove the offending decoder.

But here is where I run into a problem. While Bachmann apparently regularly sent out "plugs" for this conversion to DC, they weren't doing it when they sent me my replacement loco. I have no "plugs" for conversion to DC, nor would I know where to plug them in if I had them. (Obviously they wouldn't send instructions for something they hadn't even developed yet).

But I'm betting lots of you have them, because many of you use DCC and so would have had no use for those plugs.

So this post is a call for help. Does anyone have a spare set of these plugs that I could buy? I've seen them called "jumper plugs," "jumpers," "conversion plugs," and "dummy plug." And does anyone have the instructions or manual or whatever it is that could send or post a copy of how to use the plugs?

I'm also willing to learn how to solder the connections (instead of using plugs), if anyone has an idea how one would go about doing that. I can solder--the question is what on the board should be soldered.
