Welcome back everyone. Not sure if it was system wide or just me but for two weeks, I was unable to log on to Trainboard but here we are again, hopefully back on track. Let's see what you were able to accomplish this past weekend. Saturday: After a rather sleepless night, I got up and made my coffee then started on the project of the weekend, the HO scale framework to hold the two HO modules I built. The frame is a simple box frame made of 1X3 pine that is 8 feet wide by 16 inches deep. Despite the fact this is a simple box, for whatever reason it took all day to build it. By 4:00pm I was cleaning up the garage and putting everything away. The wife and I went to Hobby Lobby then grabbed some dinner before heading to Menards then home. Sunday: Frame day two. I was able to recycle the legs from the City Job modules and was able to make a strong structure. The goal here is to take the two HO modules to a show with their own legs (That are too tall to be used in my home office) then come home, slide the two modules onto the frame, complete with skyboard, bolt the modules together and done. No fussing with legs and leveling. I finished the legs but ran out of time to complete the skyboard. The wife made her delicious meat loaf for dinner and for dessert she made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. I was good and only had two. Then like that the weekend was over. So how about you? What did you get accomplished? Let us know. Barring any computer or web issues, we'll assemble again on Friday, November 1st. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and healthy and... HAPPY HALLOWEEN! & High Greens!
Jim, I also was unable to view Trainboard for two weeks. Friday. Once I got home from work I added stress coat to the fish pond in preparation for adding water. Due to the fact we have had no rain in the Philadelphia area in all of October the water level was down about 10 inches. I continued on my rolling stock kit building rampage as I completed 5 kits. Saturday. We ran errands to the post office and grocery store. I took care of some laundry and did some cleaning. I did some organizing of the storage for some of my rolling stock. I built another 4 kits. Sunday. We didn’t do much. I added water to the fishpond and did some more laundry. I tested a couple of new locomotives I recently got off eBay. I only built two kits. If I can, I will post pictures of the kits. Since I ran out of metal wheels I temporarily had use the plastic wheels on some cars.
Welcome back Y'all, This past weekend - I worked on a Bachmann ATSF S-4 - (Sorry, no photos.) The previous weekend - I wrapped up the Dynamometer car - Thanks, and Y'all have a great week Wolf
In the last couple of weeks, I finished flooring, hung shelves, set up my workbench, and assembled my benchwork.
Managed to drive w/ the Mrs and the pooch for a few days in Savannah, GA. I thought about modeling a little bit during the drive. Have a great week all!!
This weekend was Pine Burr Council, Spanish Trail District Fall Camporee - The Highland Games. Our small but mighty 3 Scout contingent took home 3 blue ribbons for first place in Disk Golf, the Three Legged Race and Storming the Castle (a lashing challenge to build a ladder out of logs, climb up to a platform and climb back down). Plus the usual campfire shenanigans. A good if not train-ful weekend.
Happy Monday all! First weekend home in 3 weeks and the wife really kept me busy. Did manage a stop at the LHS on Saturday to pick up a couple of ordered cars and some scenery materials. Sunday, I fired up the layout and just let a couple of trains run. I finished up a depressed center flat that I started weeks ago and messed with a few other things. Was just nice to sit down at the workbench for a bit. Hope you all have a great week!
Well, this was the big Emmaus (pronounced Em-may-us) spiritual retreat weekend so there wasn't any train stuff... unless we consider that I took the week off and spent a day working at Mom and Dad's house before the weekend. During the week, Now that I had finished boxing up all the rolling stock, buildings, and unattached scenery, I started un-wiring the benchwork to Dad's train tables and discovered that he had built all the new sections modularly (as we had done on the original sections) so that the "big" part is actually four, two foot by four foot sections. I also found, and contracted a guy to move Mom's two backyard sheds to our daughter's house which also meant that I spend half a day emptying what was left in the sheds and storing that stuff in the garage. Once moved, some of those things will be moved and returned to the sheds, but one shed will become the home of much of Dad's train stuff (and the current contents of our box trailer) until we buy a house in which to retire (hopefully in the next few years). Thursday, I took the dogs to the kennel in the morning and, as soon as my wife came home from work, we loaded the car and headed to camp for the weekend Emmaus retreat. It went very well. Lives were changed. And, for my part, it was a little different to be one of only three men among fifty women for an entire weekend (just because it's hard to find enough female pastors). We finally made it home after eight o'clock Sunday evening. Unpacking and laundry will take a few more days. I brought the dogs home this morning. Overall, we're glad that we did it, we had a good time, we're glad that it went well... but since that's what we've been doing with every Saturday since August, we both will be very pleased to get our Saturdays back. And, hopefully THAT will allow me to do more train stuff. Dad's layout, ready for disassembly.
At least twenty years of work represented there (at least until I started taking it apart). My guess is that there were at least 150 locomotives on the layout and in storage nearby. I cannot even guess how many railcars of various types, but it's a LOT. But yeah, he had a lot of fun... and he LOVED showing them off to his grandkids.
Wow! Indeed, a Halloween scare. Two weeks lost in the Silicon jungle. I am very glad it was a system problem and no accidents or other serious personal problem. The thing is you are a perfectionist. What takes others a few minutes takes you time "to get it right". I like your plan. I like rolling stock rampages. That dynamometer car is a jewel. Tad wins this year's trophy for "human dynamo". Sometimes think is all you can do. I like Spanish Trails. Sometimes you can find an old Spaniard. Ahh, let a couple of trains run. Dad had a "massive" empire. Yep. Good to be back to normal on here. I am working on making trees. I need shrubs as well. I have been watching YT videos and they do spark ideas but as you might expect, those are way oversized. However, we persist. Have a great week.
Like ll of you I was left in no-mans land with the site being blocked With a decent gap batween shows and Hakuho not needing anything doing I set up the Tapton boards to continue the loops around the back. I.m just using Marklin turnouts around here but underestimated how many i needed and had to get the lads to pick me some up at the Locomotion model railway show still need two more The rails have been soldered to th long strips of PCB at the baseboard joint and I'll make a start on the electrical feed droppers Kev
Been a couple of weeks since I signed on, but I did not get a lot done during the two weeks, I had been urinating at least once every half hour and some days every 15 minutes, after seeing the doctor found out I had a urinary infection, it all started when I got the 24 hour flu a couple of weeks ago. Been taking an antibiotic now since last Thursday and everything is getting a lot better. But I did bowl in the State Seniors Tournament in Columbus, although I did not do very well as I picked the wrong ball for most of the day, had a big improvement after I changed balls in the last game of the day. Our Friday night league has been awful, as a team we have been leaving 25 to 35 ten pins every night which does not lead to high scores and since we spot everyone hard to overcome the other team when one does not string strikes. Modeling wise, I took my GP9 chassis to the club as I could not find the short I was having, turned out when I put the new gears in the trucks I got the split axles touching inside the gears which also led to one of the wheels not turning in the bearing. We have cured all the problems and I will be running the engine in during the week while I work on other projects. Speaking thereof I have been working on another GP9 adding the specific detail parts and painting the engine, have started decaling it, hope to have it done soon but also need to tune up another Proto 2000 chassis. I am glad to see Trainboard back in action. Thank you to those who keep it going. The last couple weeks I bought more ripped plywood, painted it, and built some benchwork. Model railroading will soon be fun again.
Wow! A whole lot of MIAs returning to the fold. Now I know why. This all coincided with my browsers inability to automatically fill in the login fields - I managed to log in by entering everything manually. Now it works again and a bunch of you are back from inside the Bermuda Triangle, a spatial interphase, or back from the planet Ork. Really, really happy! That's what model railroading grandpas are for!
Finally received the long, long awaited new Atlas log cars. Searching yet again on the 'Net, found a couple of items on my N scale wish list. (Yay...) Stumbled upon an interesting 3D item on that auction site. A fairly good match for a Milwaukee Road substation operator's house. I could not resist and ordered it.
Wow, that is a jewel Wolf! Great work. With TrainBoard down, I finally made some good progress on my scenery. There's more scenery to do, but I'm finally at a point where I'm past the worst of the mess. I can now clean up the layout and run some trains while thinking about structures.
Haven't done much model Railroading as of late had some personal stuff going on and while dealing with that my house was burglarized and most of my trains were taken was upset at first however I've come to consider it a chance to upgrade as I start over
Life. Don’t talk to me about life – Marvin The Paranoid Android Well, I know that it has been a while since I last posted, my new layout room is still mostly painted and a lot has changed. One of the biggest changes is a new job. For the first time in MANY years, I am not working from home or only four days a week. I have also picked up a kitten, and will be bringing home a large amount of records and a classic car. Those are the highlights, and I am not going into the lowlights. Needless to say, life is interesting. Last week, I ordered a pair of Kato Pocketline Steeplecabs. I have been thinking about these for a while, and I figured, why not? There are a few things that I do not like, I want to swap out the pantographs with trolley poles, the paint is rather ugly, and I would like to convert the pair to DCC. I am also pondering the idea of wiring them together for 8 wheel pickup. I repainted one loco black, like later Pacific Electric freight motors and the other red as they were delivered. I don’t have any decals that will work correctly. More fun info, tonight I decided to run those little locos on my Unitram track, as much as I looked, I couldn’t find the power cords for my Kato Power packs….Interesting.
