Welcome back from the weekend everyone. I hope you had a great one and got a lot done. To our friend Tom, we all hope your wife is doing better and she was able to recuperate some this past weekend. Let's get started.

Saturday: When I wrote the Friday thread, it was 10:00pm in Ontario California and five hours latter I and my co-workers were headed to the airport. Air travel is not what it used to be so after a long and arduous few flights, I was back in Illinois. I slept in until 7:00am and got started on heating up and cleaning up my garage / work shop. I had completed construction of the HO layout legs last weekend so today was sanding and taking all the hard edges off. No one showed up to purchase RC stuff so now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the pile. By the end of the day I had the four legs sanded, treated and stained with a nice ebony stain and drying in the layout room.

Sunday: I slept in again and inspected my work to find the stain was nice and dry. I then put on the first coat of polyurethane, got cleaned up and then went with Ang to the local Antique Christmas show. We are slowly getting rid of our modern Christmas decorations and going Mid-Century like everything else. We didn't really find much but it was nice to spend time together. Once home I inspected my work, lightly sanded the legs and put on the second coat. By bed time my legs were ready to put on the layout and I can call that project, done.

So how about you? What did you get done this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 19th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Jim, thanks. Wife is feeling a little better. Her temperature is still bouncing around some but is mostly below 100. She had a breathing issue last night, but it calmed down quickly. She decided to go to work this morning. Hopefully it will go well.

Did a little more decorating for Thanksgiving. I winterized the fishpond. I still need to breakdown and clean the filter.

I went over the last set of rolling stock I ran to see what the cars need. I now have 16 cars that need couplers changed, metal wheels added, or some other item needed to bring them up to standards.

Happy Monday all. This weekend I spent doing a few "honey-do's" but did manage to get some ground cover/scenery down. This weekend I focused on the holding tracks for the future C&O LCL Warehouse. Then late yesterday afternoon, I stopped about 3:30 and cleaned/vacuumed the mess that always comes w/ putting down ground cover.

    Have a great week.

It was a good weekend of layout work and enjoyment of the hobby in general.

Saturday morning focused primarily on getting the work bench cleaned up so I can build more switches. Two 40’ boxcars I started the previous weekend were finished up and had extra weight added.

Then, I did more work on the drill track and got some more of that track fastened down. Bill came over and rode down together to the NMRA Division meeting. (My first in 7 years).

Sunday, I finished the drill track and connected the crossovers and other end of the siding/drill track, so that is now finished.

Bill and I both entered in the Division’s annual building challenge. This years challenge is a wooden bridge. I opened the kit and stained all of the parts first. Hope to start assembly next weekend. 16 of these kits will be presented for discussion and display at the next Division meeting in December.

Finally, I had a pile of foam board scraps that needed dealt with. So I started gluing them to the benchwork for roughing in scenery. Eventually there will be a mountain inside this peninsula loop, but at least if a train string lines, the cars won’t fall to the concrete (for now) floor!

    Good morning all,

It is getting cold enough here now that I got down the small heater I use in the train room and start using it. Made some more progress on the turnout building and track laying for the Carlin yard. Also decided to use manual push - pull rod controls on all but one of the turnouts. Ordered some slide switches for that purpose and 2mm LED's for a display panel. Here is a view from the east end of the yard

    Nada.
    Zip.
    Zilch.
    Bupkis.
    Squat.

Those would be my MRR accomplishiments this weekend.
But our hike on Saturday was sunny and fabulous - my oldest son caught three sunfish in the stream we crossed using a handline he's taken to carrying when we hike. He has the fishing bug hard that one. Sunday was two days of domestic duties crammed into one.

    And here we are.

Did some travel to visit family, so didn't get much done, thought I did glue up and nail my shelf built of leftover 1/2" ply. Still needs a face frame ... which will be built of scrap lumber as well. :) The rear is rabbeted for a 1/4" ply back, but that'll have to wait until I have some of that. This will go under the layout to hold stuff that's currently kicking about on the floor.

It was a long weekend and I was “stuck” at home. Weather was good so the kids spent most of it outside and my wife went Xmas shopping. So I was able to

-Finish weathering 7x covered hoppers from last week.
    -Weather 6x reefers
-Redo the weathering on 9 sets of trucks for my WC fleet
-Get 90% done with an ex-ATSF SD45 patched for WC. [IMG]

Hmmm. What did I do? Worked overtime both days, which limited my time and energy. Painted the hull of a small tugboat kit. To be used in a small waterfront scene. Now I need to review a Dave Frary video or two on painting water to show ripples and wash against beaches and breakwaters. Decided I did not like the amount of truck swing on several freight cars. The chosen coupler, (M/T # 1015) is a tiny bit wider pocket assembly than desired. Thinking I will look at the #1023 for comparison, as I've had good luck with that one in the past. Started assembling a gondola kit. Sunday afternoon fell asleep, once again, watching (educational television- ha ha) a Rocky & Bullwinkle DVD.

I got absolutely nothing done this weekend!

Saturday was spent food shopping, we now have our thanksgiving dinner minus two items.

Sunday I had to do a trailer repair before it got too cold and wet.

Well, believe it or not I stuck to plan, no, really. ☻
All 4 quaters / sections are painted. Here is the South Eastern section showing all 3 levels.

Kudos to my wife who helped select the colors. Unpainted blocks are supporting track as I'm not sure how I want to proceed there.

Another weekend that passed all too fast. Didn't get much time at the layout but added a couple of trees and some ground foam. Not enough to be picture worthy. Rearranged some freight cars on the storage shelf as well.
Non train related, my son and I got the ping pong table put together and of course he beat me twice but his mom is super good so neither of us had a chance. Took down and relocated one ceiling fan and put up another new one. As a "bonus" we painted the ceiling in one of those rooms as well. Still have one room that we haven't found the right replacement light fixture for.

Hope you all have a great week!

I love the pics above. More great projects listed. Right now, the last three covered hoppers are getting discharge chutes with latch levers. Then, stirrup steps. Should be done by Tuesday or Wednesday. Pics to come. :)

Well the only things on the agenda that were accomplished were bowling on Friday and not very well at that and going to the club on Saturday. All else I managed to do was put up shelves and move my kits from one set of shelves to another and cleanup my workbench so I can move it next weekend as my son from Colorado is coming to visit for Thanksgiving.

Finished painting my Varney Docksider, then tried weathering the stack and cab roof with a grimy black paint, hated it, repainted those parts, then finally reassembled everything. This week, I'm hoping to install a DCC decoder and keep alive circuit. I'm hoping the original motor runs well in that configuration. As of now, it runs well forward, but only runs in reverse if it gets the full 12 volts. Stay tuned.[IMG][IMG]
