Instead of doing all the things I had originally planned, I was in bed or on the sofa all weekend with this miserable flu. Not COVID thankfully but one of the worst sore throats I have ever experienced. To add insult to injury, we had to turn the heat on again thanks to the cold front that moved in Friday night. So, nothing to report for me. How about you? Let us know what you got accomplished. We'll assemble again on Friday the 27th for a special Memorial Day Weekend thread. Greetings all and happy Monday. Jim, hope you are headed down hill w/ this. The flu is no fun. Short modeling weekend here. Got back from vacation and really only had yesterday. I did manage to get out the new Digitrax duplexing throttle. Also installed the UR93 radio unit that is recommended for the throttle. There's a lot to learn, but I will say the new throttle is an improvement over the older Digitrax units. Spent quite a bit of time on that yesterday. I also managed to color several rock cliffs. This was a little task that I put off several weeks ago, but got it done yesterday. Here's a shot of the new UR93. Starting to run out of space on the top rack of my power console.
I finished up more undergrowth, static grass and grass tufts around the Canaan Union Station over the weekend. Still more work to be done on roads and buildings. Here is a shot of NX12 rolling through the scenery projects from the last few weeks.
Good mornin Y'all Well - I had a pretty good and fairly productive modeling weekend. Completed my friends NYO&W project. My H12-44 project is coming along. She's all decaled and painted. Yesterday, I started installing the lights (LED's). Started off good - then went a little side ways. Not bad - just set me back a day. The front gyralight popped off - re-glued it. So, couldn't continue the LED install. So, one more weekend - still have the cab "glass" to install. Then some lite weathering. Hope Y'all had a great weekend -- have an awesome week, Wolf
Moose's weekend did not see much accomplished in the train modeling arena, sad to admit... Friday: Yard work. Saturday: Shopping with Mrs Moose for yard-related things. Sunday: Yard work. Fabricated and painted some freight doors for brewery buildings. Monday: Shopping with Mrs Moose for yard-related things. Hoping to at least finish a few brewery buildings by adding roofs and doors. Hooves crossed!
Absolutely nothing. After working long enough shifts for an old fart, I simply didn't have any energy left in the tank. Just did little chores around the apartment which I needed to catch up... But my Unitrack parts are supposed to be here later today, so maybe I will get re-started on that project again.
Good Monday all, Jim - glad you tested negative for the big C and wishing you speedy recovery. Kitbash- that is quite a nice, organized Digitrax setup you have there. Moose - I can relate ! After finishing the post camping trip chores, I was able to get the approaches on both sides of the grade crossing started using .030 styrene. Still need to do something for between the rails. I want to have lighted grade crossing signals here but have had no luck finding another pair of the NJ International models that I used in Battle Mountain. I did order an Azatrax grade crossing controller and if I have to I think I could scratch build a reasonable pair of crossing signals using the same techniques I learned making the searchlight signals that I have on the layout.
Actually on Friday, did not do a lot, started on an Exactrail B&O Wagontop Boxcar, hard to put on the parts with no diagram or instructions. But after doing so many Branchline and other kits, you seem to know where all the parts go, but the Duryea Cushion Underframe was a little daunting. Saturday, was our final club meeting date prior to summer, then we had an operating session, and my assigned train went well even with the error I made early on. Later on I almost completed the Wagontop Boxcar kit and painted a Boxcar and Gondola for decaling later. Also did some cleanup work putting completed cars away and cars and locos I took to the club. Sunday, finished the Wagontop Boxcar kit and did some bench cleanup along with the general area so I can move some stuff from one side of the basement to the other. Prepared the decals for the cars I painted with Microscale Decal Film. Today, spent the day getting tests scheduled for the open heart surgery next week. Rick Jesionowski
Well it finally happened. My son and wife tested positive for covid. My son earlier in the week and my wife yesterday. My son is basically over it and tested negative yesterday. Since he was vaccinated and had one booster he said it was like a really bad flu. The wife is vaccinated and twice boosted. She also got the antiviral medication. It is hitting her like a normal flu at the moment. My daughter and I are trying to avoid getting it. I slept on the couch which made one of the cats very happy. I did get the second Athearn Tropicana reefer built and I started on one of the Con-Cor ones.
I glued on the paper Waithers copywrite 1967 retaining walls. I was going to do more work after dinner last night but we were hit with 60mph winds very heavy ran and thankfully light hail. A little after the storm passed the power went out, around 5:30 pm. Fortunately my wife had gotten take out at a nice Italian restaurant so it made for a nice quiet 18th anniversary dinner. Power did not come on until after midnight.
Weekend went about as expected and I did finish a couple modeling related tasks, too. I was wrong about Saturday. My thinking was we would spend the entire day failing to find a wedding gift. Only took the morning to exhaust the possibilities. Instead of an "indulgent dinner," we were at a small brewery by 1pm. Pastor taco and tamal washed down with a local beer. We did order the gift online later that evening. Sunday's soccer games slid downhill as the day went on. Ended up 1-1-1 for the day. I did get bacon and eggs, though! Oh, yeah, this is a modeling thread. I got my laser enclosure finished. Cut a mounting bracket from acrylic as a test case. That was successful, but rough. Machine needs cleaning and adjustment. Back to working on train parts this week while I scrounge stuff needed to relaunch the paint booth. Stay safe,
I am on here a day late due to making myself go fishing. I am hoping that #Jim Wiggin and #dti406 quickly return to optimum good health. The #Tompm folks as well. The above projects again reflect a high-level of talent on here. Scenery looks cool. Congratulations on the bacon and eggs too! I am working on maintenance and a new idea for car sides. If the rain continues, I might get something done. Have a great and healthy week.
Dug all my NTRAK modules out.........they had been in the trailer since just before Covid hit (2 + years?) for a club setup. The club had been living out of the van (so to speak) and we'd been using the same modules over and over. Found a few minor repairs needed before the setup, and a bunch more during. One module was lighted using power from an old AHM powerpack.......it took a dump (both AC and DC) over the weekend, and we discovered a melted frog on one turnout. Not sure if that was a previous issue or a new one, but the member using that line had a reefer with a melted truck. A bunch of minor scenery repairs needed on the other 4 modules........but that will be for NEXT weekend. Bad weather predicted, so a good time to put in some "garage time". Also rigged up a battery pack for a small loop of track we have on one corner. I got a new Kato "pocket line" steeple cab switcher, and it will plug along happily on 2.5 volts, so I made a little battery pack with 2 AA batteries to power the loop. It'll run about 6-7 hours on a set of rechargable batteries, but I changed them out after 4 (halfway thru the day) cuz the loco starts to slow down after about 5 hours. Felt good to get the modules back in service.
Finished wiring five turnouts on my N Scale DS&N RR. The only thing left to do trackwise (is that a word? ) is the engine terminal, with three switches and five blocks. I'm a DC guy, so blocks are a necessary part of things. I enjoy wiring, so it's not a big deal, though copper mines in UT and AZ are adding capacity to serve my demand for wire.
I pass MOW trains all the time and they have at least one if not two of those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
