Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and found plenty to get done. Let's see how we did.

Friday: A nice day off from the last few months. Spent a lot of time at the big box hardware store weighing my options for a new workbench. After looking at all my options, I went with a standard 6-foot banquet table. I then went to my not-so-local hobby shop to pick up a locomotive that had a keep alive installed into it. I met a buddy there, so we talked for a while as he is ready to start building his N scale layout in a spare room. I then spoke with the owner of the shop and talked shop with him for a few hours then made my way back home to the wife.

Saturday: I slept in, made a pot of coffee and wandered into the workshop. I had big plans, but I still needed some supplies. After a bit, Ang decided to go to Costco, and I went with her to get a few returns taken care of. Once we were finished there, we went to the big box hardware store again and I picked up to sheets of pegboard, a new power strip and some hanging hardware for the pegboard. Once home I worked on cleaning up the shop before going to meet my buddy and his wife for dinner and to discuss his layout plans.

Sunday: I did the same. I slept in, made coffee and with nowhere to go, I made my list of getting the workbench project finished. Wood was cut, panels were trimmed, and power strips were installed. By Sunday evening it was starting to look like a workbench.
    IMG_5683.jpg

The longer and lower table will be more comfortable and is also the same height as my airbrush station so I can now simply roll my chair to the airbrush station and back again. Also, with the pegboard on the wall, the table is free to move to the center of the room for bigger projects. I still have to add my paint and bottle rack, but I got a good jump on the overall project. Then the long weekend was over.

So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 10th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

I had a pretty good weekend. We finally got the tree down, boxed, and store away. One of my cats is very upset with me for taking away his tree. He did not climb it this year but lounged under it every chance he got. I got the car inspected and we did the grocery store and produce store runs. My wife is feeling more adventurous. She went into a store by herself while I hit the grocery store. Normally she is very nervous about her ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. However, switching orthopedic doctors seems to be the trick as the new doctor is treating the source of the pain instead of just giving her pain medications like the other was. Sunday went to Delaware to get gas. I paid $2.43 with my grocery store rewards which was a dollar off each gallon. Of course, we did a little laundry.

I am about 95% done checking, tuning up, and organizing my boxcar collection. I have about a dozen cars to check and tune up and about five that need some type of repairs. I began putting them in bins. Thus far I have done the 36 FT, 50 FT, 60 FT, and 40 FT wood boxcars. I still have the 40 FT steel cars to do.

    Good mornin to Y'all --

    Weekend didn't quite as planned.

Didn't get to the oil changes. --

Other than that -- it did.

Saturday: Started to modify an Atlas St. Louis Southwestern (SSW/Cotton Belt) GP7. The Atlas paint is good. However, she is in her as delivered number (320). I will be renumbering her to 304. As well as adding correct details.

Sunday: - I litely weathered the FA/FB's - Then cleaned track and gave 'em a run:

    Hey All,

I mentioned this on Friday...finished up decals and a few other details for this Bitter Creek Models 34-ft boxcar. The Kansas City, Fort Scott, and Memphis (K-C. F-S. & M) decals are from Precision Design Co. Trucks are Tahoe Model Works 5-ft arch bar trucks. A few minor details to add and then weathering. This has been on the workbench for some time.

    IMG_2432 (2).JPG

I also worked on a flat car from Bitter Creek and have it to about 80% completion. Maybe some pictures on that one next week. I also worked on a re-pour of my "Lightning Creek" as the two-part resin from the first try never set up after more than 5 weeks. I went back and tried the acrylic medium method and it's not too bad, but needs some touch up of the surrounding scenery. Not sure what went wrong...probably poor mixing or a mistake during January.

Anyhow...you all have a good week and hope you find some hobby time.

Another Monday. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

This weekend went exactly as I thought it would. In addition to 2 "honey-do's", I spent considerable time sorting through hundreds of magazines to give away. The most time consuming task is thumbing through each one to insure there isn't an article, how-to-do, or reference that I'd like to keep. So far, I am finding I will probably retain about 10 to 15% of the 600 or 700 magazines I have. These are mostly MR, NMRA, and the C&O Historical Society monthly mag.

Also, I spent time finishing the layout extension base for the LCL project. I propped up the elevated track (about 50% done) to see how it was going to work. I am thinking the end of this elevated may be a candidate for a mirror given a mirror's position here would never capture operators or observers given it is facing back into the layout. May be a "brain cramp" at this point but I am going to pursue it.

    Have a great week all!!

    HI Folks:

I had a good and productive weekend, my biggest accomplishment for railroading was completing the container loading crane model. Beyond that, I spent a lot of time watching the Nascar Clash and sleeping --

    Have a great week

    Good morning all,

My last full weekend at home for a while was a busy one.

Got our luggage down to start packing for our trip. One of the suitcases had a broken handle which I was able to fix. But by the time I got it fixed, my wife had already ordered 2 new ones on Amazon which arrived on Sunday.

Spent quite a bit of time this weekend at the computer - making some reservations for some train rides in Japan, then a flurry of activity regarding plans for the Ntrak layout at the NSE convention in June. Also took in some of a live stream of presentations at the Layout Design / Operations SIG event.

I did get almost all of the rolling stock off the layout as planned and spent about an hour on the phone catching up with a buddy I had not spoken to for a while.

    Some plans happened, some didn't.

Friday and Saturday, as expected, I spent most of my time doing homework. Although it was, at least, all interesting stuff, I had more pages to read than I had time in which to read them all. While my regular "pages per hour" reading pace would indicate that I *should* have been able to get it all done, there's only so many pages I can read before my brain just decides that its had enough.

Saturday morning however, I took a break and my wife and I went out to brunch at a restaurant near her place of employment (and not far from my mother's house) that we hadn't tried before and of which she's heard good things. The folks who recommended it were right. My breakfast of hash browns, eggs, cheese, banana peppers, mushrooms, etc. (all formed into the shape of a brick) was so big that I ate half, took half home, ate half (of the remaining half) for breakfast this morning (Monday) and still have enough for breakfast tomorrow. We both like it and saw a number of other things on the menu that we'd like to try so we're pretty sure that we'll go back at some point.

Sunday was church, followed by the monthly business meeting for the Sebring Model Railroad Club where I was quite busy because, being the beginning of the year, a lot of folks wanted to pay dues.

After the meeting, my friend did not bring his Loco that he recently converted to DCC simply because, being a business meeting, there were a lot more people taking up space than usual. We'll probably have a look at it when there are only a handful of us on Tuesday. I did, however, take along a box of 1950's era locomotives, many manufactured by Varney, given to me by a church member, and that had previously been collected by *his* father. The difficulty, was not only had they been in storage for decades (with ancient newspaper wrapping and associated mouse droppings, seeds, etc.) but that they were just a jumble. I have at least a half dozen locos and ten or more tenders, and have no idea what models they are or what locos match with what tenders. Diesel era I know enough to begin a Google search but I don't even know where to begin in the steam era. So, I took my box along (after vacuuming up most of the mouse's household detritus) and asked for help. I got some. Not a lot, but its a start. Now, at least, I think I have a starting point with Google.

Sunday evening (and Monday morning) it was back to homework as I have to present a 20 minute review of last week's homework in this afternoon's class, so I had to review last week's study and write a sermon length report for today's presentation.

And now I'm back to my regular weekly grind.

Hope you all have a good week!

Not a lot with trains. Changed my mind on the trim for the new engine house. Went with a maroon instead of black. Painted some window sashes and other appropriate places. Maybe by next weekend I can upload a picture. Decided to order a Kato chassis from Japan. Will be doing that in a few minutes. Continued cataloging my boat racing button, pin and tack collection. Some I'd forgotten owning. Did not realize I had this many! A couple I learned are slightly more valuable than I had thought. It has been quite the fun trip down memory lane and will keep me busy a while longer.

Made some progress on building up the foam on the embankment. The foam block for the other side is next.

Well with all the stuff with my wife’s eye problems I did not get anything done modeling wise on Friday and bowling was a big disappointment after the previous week and Tuesday’s results.

Saturday we changed out the truck on my Rapido PA-1 and it no longer details on any track irregularities or turnouts like it did with that warped truck. Also got a cabin car decaled on one side and did some more work on a heavily modified old AHM covered hopper.

Sunday finished all the lettering on the cabin car and painted a boxcar to be decaled during the week. Also started work on a Bowser covered hopper kit.

Also helped my wife recover from that eye injection everything seems to be good with no pain, can’t wait for next month’s adventure. Also for all those that take note of our weather here in Northeast Ohio all the snow is gone with the warm weather.

The weekend has past, but with some accomplishments...

    Friday:
Spent the day with Mrs. Moose getting bathroom remodeling ideas, and then out to lunch at The Red Hot pub, which da Mooses hadn't been to since before the pandemic. Yeah! :)

Actually managed to assemble scratch-built tender shells for an SP&S D-5 and an NP Z-4, a few test draw-bars for a MTP Z-6, and version two of the dreaded GN A-9 locomotive shell.

    Saturday:
Applied putty to the various scratch-built tender & locomotive shells. Since Moose was ahead of schedule on the scratch-building, Moose decided to spend the rest of the day catching up on email letters to a friend...

    Sunday:
Sadly, too wet and cold to fire up the Harley -- yeah, Moose a wimp ... There were days, long ago, that only ice and snow kept the Beast in the garage... Oh what has happened to Moose?!

Spent more time with Mrs Moose though - and that is a good thing! Of course, it was spent looking online for ideas on how to build a bathroom vanity. Thankfully, Mrs Moose used to be in home remodeling; otherwise, well, Moose is all hooves so building a hoity-toity vanity would be well beyond Moose's abilities...

Did manage to sand down the putty on the shells. Another application is forth-coming...

Hope everyone has a great week! :)

I was "on call" with the family for the weekend, but the call never came. Since I couldn't venture too far afield it was a perfect weekend for some modeling. There were a few obligatory runs for groceries, etc. Otherwise, good progress.

Started with fitting the inserts I cut last week into the test drivers.
    cardstock proof.JPG

Looked good so I moved onto the thicker, Polybak material to provide more depth.
    polybak mock up.JPG

Then it was a test of seam filling adhesive.
    polybak seams filled.JPG

I wasn't too sure about that, but let it cure overnight. Then a bit of primer to see how it would take paint. First chance to use the recently renovated spray booth.
    primer.JPG

Happy with that result. And the spray booth did its job. There will be a few tweaks to the final version. I am now ready to bring the airbrush out of mothballs and see what I can remember about using it. Then will be the part I have been so cautious about. Putting a cutting tool to the practically irreplaceable main driver.

    Stay safe,

Cool workstation! Ninety-five percent! Excellent! (y) UP power! @rjthomas909, I am astounded! ;) @Kitbash, maybe two mirrors? NASCAR is the Redneck Circus (Jeff Foxworthy). :sneaky: @nscalestation, Whew! Back to the grind. Maroon trim. Sounds cool. That is one big embankment! Warm in Ohio! The end of days? (And a covered hopper! :)) Someone has been "puttying" around! ;) @Mark St Clair, By Jove! I think you've got it! A patient trek to great results. (y) This past weekend was short. I left town Friday and came back Saturday afternoon. Visited my daughter and her folks. Therefore, nothing done due to light chores and just mental planning Sunday. I do have an idea for porch rails for the bungalow. (y) I should be on this today. Have a great week. :D

This weekend I finished re-doing this house model. My grandmother was born in this house in 1920. I initially only had a picture of the front and so I just imagined what the back looked like. When I gave it to her for her 102nd birthday she mentioned that the real one had a "sleeping porch" in the back. I did not have a sleeping porch on my model :( But - my aunt came to the rescue and found a picture of the back so I redid the model and here it is. Wish I had better pics of it but I wanted to give it back to my grandmother as soon as I could. She loved it (y) (and I think she forgot the first attempt, so even better it was like the first time seeing it...haha)
    Elkhart_IL.jpg
Eventually I'll re-do it again with better ratios/proportions to match the prototype and add the garage and outhouse.

    Cheers -Mike

Monday already? Where did the weekend go?
Got a couple of packs of metal wheel sets installed. Then installed a pair of boxcar loads that turned out pretty nice. Then it was one of those, face palm moments. Grabbed the flat I wanted to use for the M/T truck frame loads and set them on the car to make sure everything looked right and it did. Then I picked up the etched metal sheet of tie downs that came with them and realized i hadn't painted them yet. So, broke out some paint and got that done. Left them to dry and moved on to the next task, working on a new gondola load idea. Made a fake floor for the gon and attached these items so it can be removable. Gon needs some weathering and the loads need tie downs but I think it will be an interesting load.

    BN567775.jpg

I also spent a lot of time sleeping and still don't feel 100% again yet. We'll try again next weekend :)
