What a busy weekend, and even though it was mainly spent doing things of the non railroad kind, I was able to sneak in a bit of railroading. On the way back to New Jersey, a friend and his wife and I stopped into a diner in Ohio that has a railroad theme. Buckeye Joe's features a steam locomotive and a combine and caboose in which you can eat in. The food was great, the view nice and the railroad decor was perfect for the foamer. I'll post pictures and a info later. So how about you? What kind of accomplishments did you achieve? Any shows? How about some railfanning? Leave your post below and as always, pictures are great. We'll do it all over again on Friday the 11th.
I got some ditch lights installed on my MP15DC. It took a lot of creative thinking to get them working but I think the effort was worth it. Now just got to do around 10 or so more locos.
I've finished another dual gauge turnout. Now I'm busy with Thomas the tank engine. This engine for my grand daughter needs sound - like my other engines. Wolfgang
I didn’t accomplish any train stuff I planned this weekend. It was a busy weekend. On Saturday we saw two volleyball matches on Saturday. First we saw Kutztown at West Chester. Then in the evening we saw Northeastern at Delaware. These were the first Division 2 and Division 1 games we have seen in person. On Sunday we attended Delaware Valley College’s Open House and talked with the volleyball coach and some of the players. My son had to stay home from camping this weekend. He injured his toe in his soccer game. He was having a good deal of pain and trouble walking. The doctor told him to ice it and take Motrin for pain and to stay off of it. He is feeling better this morning and went to school. Tonight he has his Board of Review for Life Scout at his troop meeting. I did, however, get a few things off the layout, however.
I painted ten Atlas telephone poles, and the trucks on my Amtrak step up coach. Nothing photo worthy, but it needed to be done. Almost ready for Trainfest. Tonight, I work on the Light Mountain while watching the game.
Cleaning up from the snowstorm (branches and tree limbs) ate Saturday. I did get the finishing touches on the bicycle shop done. This is the interior of the bike shop. Here's the front of the whole Merchants Row. The bicycles are from Gold Medal Models, available through Walthers. They come as a single brass stamping, 8 bikes and a bike rack. You have to cut them off and twist the handlebars and pedals out, then paint them. I started with a spray coat of silver, and then hand-painted the rest with acrylics. I took this picture off-layout to take advantage of natural light on the other side of the room. I installed it loosely, but didn't wire in the lights yet. I've still got that pesky scrapyard to do, and it's easier to work on it if this building is removed. I finished the plank fence and got that painted, and I scratch-built the walls of the scrapyard office.
Unfortunatly, I was not able to get any railroading stuff done this weekend. Life just keeps getting in the way.
I worked on setting up and running my clubs modular HO layout at the show in Port Jervis, NY on Saturday. Sunday I did my regular daily 4-1/2 mile walk, attended a confirmation service at a relatives church, got to drive my new F-150 pickup truck, went to a brunch and worked a little on my T-Trak modules until I fell asleep with one of them on my lap.
I played gandy dancer this weekend and got the wye tracks laid in Laramie. I am headed down to the train room now to wire it up.
Those bicycles look excellent! I didn't get to the things I'd wanted to do this weekend, but I did get to redo my N-scale Herndon Depot cardstock model kit file. Originally I had used a generic vertical board pattern, and it looked pretty good, but then I was looking at some photos I'd taken of the station and decided to redo all of the siding using a seamless texture created directly from the photo. Looks MUCH better! Hopefully I'll have some time to put it together, along with the N-scale W&OD center-cupola caboose I designed (also made from photos). This was a fun distraction.
Wow, great progress made everyone! As promised, pictures of my find. If you are on Ohio Interstate 71, stop off on exit 165 and you will see Buckeye Express on the hill. It's kind of hard to miss! The interior is all railroad and Ohio Buckeye decor. WARNING! If your a Michigan fan, you might not like this place . Don't look for sympathy here, I'm an Illini fan. The food is awesome and worth the slightly higher price of the boring fast food chains. It was nice to eat my burger and look out the window of the combine. They also have a neat gift shop with candy, ice cream and other fun things. Stop by and get a Super Dog and tell em Jim sent ya!
