Good morning and welcome to the Gateway to the weekend. I hope you all had a good week and are ready to kick back and do some modeling. Let's get started.

Friday: It's a new day or should I say Era for Athearn. Today you'll all see the culmination of 4 months of stressful work, by not just me but production managers and Product Development. My first live is in Champaign at Horizon Hobby and the Athearn world headquarters. I'll have a special live at noon Central followed by the regular Live of introducing April new items. Some good news for us N scalers! After that I will crash and enjoy pizza, beer and a little Star Trek TNG.

Saturday: I plan to sleep in. Angela's Grandma on her dad's side turns 90, so we are celebrating this milestone with a surprise party. I may also visit my Mustang and see how she is doing. Once I get back from the Rocky Mountain Train show, my weekends will probably be spent with her and the motorcycle, if spring arrives.

Sunday: No idea. The weather is supposed to be windy, grey and cold. If I can work in the garage, I would like to add the fascia, fascia rail and fascia shelf as well as the backdrop. If I get that done, all the construction will be done and I can start by painting the underneath grey, the top earth brown, the back sky blue and stain everything else ebony. There are rumors of a train show too so who knows. I'm not really planning anything right now, so I guess we'll see on Monday.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the weekend? let us know. We'll come back on Monday the 28th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Today I am sitting around waiting for my wife having a 3 hour medical test. I may get to building a Red Caboose R70-15 Reefer and painting a boxcar kit that I built this week. Then bowling tonight we are close to first place but don’t know if we can get there.

Saturday: Club meeting in the morning then I am doing my sister-in-law’s tax return in the afternoon may get to some decalling in the evening.

Sunday: Doing the laundry and may get some painting done between loads. Continue on car kits and decalling.

Hmmm, Mrs Moose really wants to spend time together today, tomorrow, the next day... Hooves crossed that any of this gets started!
    :cautious:

Friday: Design a freight house to match the passenger-only station that Moose is scratch-building, and possibly start designing some other buildings to scratch-build for Oban Yard.

Saturday: Spend the day with Mrs Moose [and avoid yard work if at all possible]. :)

Sunday: Do penance for having been such a pain in Mrs Moose's hiney the day before...

There is a train show in Urbana this weekend organized by the Illinois Terminal NMRA division, so the Illini Railroad Club will set up a few of our Free-Mo modules for a small operating display. We also have a booth to sell some products and old models. I have not been to this show before, so I don't know what to expect in terms of size or attendance. The 2021 show was canceled due to the coronavirus, I think the 2020 show snuck in just before all the lockdowns started.

Benchwork again this weekend. I haven't gotten much chance to work on it this week. Add that to the fact that I tend to work at a leisurely pace and stop to contemplate things a lot and progress has been somewhat slow.

I need to do a heavy cleaning of the wood floors in our bedroom as part of spring cleaning. There is laundry to do as there always is. If the weather is decent one day this weekend we may do some planting.

If I get to the workbench I will work on the hot dog stand. I have been thinking about finally working on the wiring for the layout.

The weather has gotten warmer here even hitting 80 one day. The past couple weeks have been filled with outdoor chores on the vegetable garden and some outdoor lighting on the deck. The lack of ballast was holding up progress on the Carlin section of the layout and I started working on another section.

This weekend I plan to design / build another trestle of some sort, I am thinking concrete. This will be the last bridge needed. Then continue with the the work along the river that I have already started. Also I am finally expecting to receive the ballast today from Arizona Rock & Mineral after 2 months so I may get the Carlin section back out and start some ballasting.

Photos on Monday then this will all make better sense. Have a great weekend everyone.

I have a lot of decaling to do today/tomorrow - a dozen Atlas N scale ACF 2 bay centerflow hoppers and five Atlas 40' box cars.

    Hmm... time for Kiz to
    get out his reading
    glasses again...

Love them Fridays! This weekend I plan on working in the train room primarily, just to get out of the work shop from the last several weekends.

This weekend the plan is to advance the Jackson River Gorge scene with 2 major improvements:

    • Extend backdrops on either side of the bridge, up against the layout, to soften the difference between the layout and the painted window-wall beyond. This should add more of a continuing "3D" effect on each side of the bridge with the painted mountains beyond that backdrop.
    • Cast some rock outcroppings in the gorge.
Provided I don't have some sort of brain cramp walking around the layout room while having my first cup of coffee, I should be able to get it done. The only other thing is a 2 hour break when the NC State women's basketball team continues their NCAA run tomorrow against Notre Dame. Go Pack! Go Train room! That's the plan this weekend.

Here's the river gorge scene as of this moment:

Sigh, um, er, well, I have 4 more bison and longhorn to paint. Maybe I'll get that done and fence in the heards.

We are almost at inventory, at work. So more extra hours coming. Probably going to be a bit pooped, so no large projects planned. Like Kiz, I am wanting to accomplish a bit of decal work. Otherwise, we shall see if I can stay awake for other impulses.

Ya, have you noticed? Everything in N-Scale is smaller now. How did that happen?

@Kisatchie Love the benchwork / facia. Just a thought, A 'Family Henge' marking birthdays or maybe your 'Golden Spike' day with the sunlight through the window. Maybe line up a couple of trees or boulders or?

If the weather is as lousy as predicted on Sunday, I'll work on painting and detailing the 3D printed house kits I bought on Etsy that were delivered Wednesday. Saturday will be dedicated to yard work, and hoping to get it done before the games tip off. Then I'll settle in front of the tube and be a BB junkie with a craft ale or two. If I get the house kits done, I've got some vehicles to paint and detail too. Why is it there's always something needing work on the layout, but it seems never time to just run trains.
