Can you believe May is almost over? Can you believe we are going into Summer? Well the unofficial start anyway. And least we forget the importance of Monday. Please remember the importance!

Saturday: Well, definitely no modeling on this day. It will be a Jess the Jeep day with many miles under her. This is the weekend we are starting the transition from Illinois to New Hampshire so Saturday is just the start of a busy week to come.

Sunday: More driving, yes more. Jess and I will be spending a lot of time together.

Monday: It's Memorial Day! While I will be happy to spend it with my family at home, I will not forget those that gave all so we can enjoy the many freedoms we have. I realize these days in this country are darker than years past and by no means is the country I love perfect, but please realize that no matter what stance or political flavor you align yourself with, remember: The freedom to express yourself and what matters to you is because others before you answered the call against tyranny. So despite the 300,000 commercials for futons, hot dogs and new cars, This long weekend for us Americans is MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. Remember, respect and thank those who served.

We'll assemble again on Tuesday the 30th to see how we have done. Another programming note: I may be a little late on the Tuesday thread as well as the following Friday the 2nd of June thread. Why? Details to follow. Until then, have a safe Memorial Day Weekend, and as always...

    High Greens!

    HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!

No modelling plans this weekend. In Denver, so today I get to see the updated Denver Union Station, and next Wednesday, ride the Durango-Silverton. Drove along I-80 the last 3 days. Lots of trainspotting (no photos) through Wyoming

Leaving work early today. Office is deserted. Hope to get some work done this afternoon. Tomorrow I have herb-garden prep duty for the Mrs, but that will be only a couple of hours. Other than that, it will be working on the RR and grilling on the Green Egg. Grand-Slam Modeling Plan for the weekend is to paint and install the CVM bridge that has taken too long to build! Then on to the rest of the layout.

Leaving work early to attend a veterans round table event at the local VFW today. It is a group discussion format where about 25 veterans introduce themselves and where they served. After this, the big group is divided into smaller versions where participants ask specific questions. After this, is a meal. Eating with a vet is often encouraged. The point of all this is for local high school students to meet & talk with a vet. Its also a form of therapy for the vets over the years. A high school teacher sponsors and promotes the event each year.

I have to admit that I get lost a bit in their stories. Its very engaging, as they are local residents. It really brings the events of the past a face and makes it very personal. I often get quite emotional. But, is that not the point of the holiday in the first place?

Makes playing with trains seem pretty petty indeed.

Well, I alone apparently have high hopes of getting some training done this weekend. My wife has declared the weekend a "work free" weekend, and so I intend to ignore the gardening, mowing and all that and get some detailing done on my F7 that's been sitting, work on two PAs that have been sitting in the "to be fixed" pile and also work on some other things along the way, like additional ballasting and finally get some real train action running again.

We will be doing a traditional Memorial Day barbeque on Monday.

And of course, we will keep the flags flying and be mindful of WHY we have Memorial Day. It does, as Jim mentioned, get buried among the retail rubble, but I think we can dig it out.

In fact, I think I'll go out and buy a new flag and make sure it's hung - that should not be considered work!
