Can you believe it? It has finally arrived. Not only are we at the gateway to the weekend, but to the unofficial start to summer! Most of us get a three-day weekend so let's gather round and see what we have on the agenda.

Saturday: I'm almost 100% recovered from what was Covid. Both the Mrs. and I had it and it knocked us down a good 7 days. Today is the best I have felt in over a week. So, my plan is to head to the hardware store after Athearn makes our big announcement for a brand-new Genesis series N scale car and get supplies. Saturday, I'll fire up the table saw and get as much done on the NTrak module as possible.

Sunday: Any time spent not working on the module will likely be spent with the father-in-law and wife riding the motorcycles. Illinois has had a cold, wet spring, so this will be our first ride of the season as temps will be in the 80's and the sun will be out. Lawn work will also need to be done as the rain and covid has kept me away and it's a jungle out there.

MEMORIAL DAY: No real plans then other visit family and have a cookout. Looking forward to recharging and enjoying some outdoor time so another trip on the motorcycles maybe in order, we'll see.

So how about you? What do you have planned for the Memorial Day Weekend? Let us know. We'll reassemble on Tuesday, May 31st to see how we all did.

I'll say it again as I do every year without apology. Please don't forget the meaning of Memorial Day. While some may try to distract you in thinking it's a holiday to buy furniture or celebrate the start of summer, it is in fact a day to remember those who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. In fact, remember to stop during the moment of Remembrance, Monday, May 30th at 3pm your local time and take a moment of silence to remember. Did you know that in recent years, Amtrak engineers have taken up the practice of sounding their horns in unison at precisely 3pm? Let's never forget.

Until we meet again on Tuesday the 31st, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and above all...

    HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!

Happy Friday to Y'all and Remembrance day - a huge and very grateful THANK YOU to all the great Men and Women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

    So... my plans:
Finish up the H12-44 project. All she needs is a little weathering and she can get to work shuffling cars on my layout. (Photos to follow)

After that -- don't know yet. I'll be looking at my huge stack of projects

Y'all have a wonderful and very safe weekend - see Y'all on the other side

Yes, yes you did. And it's gonna hurt my wallet too. Next question @Jim Wiggin - is Athearn gonna sell those double shelf couplers as a ten pack so I can refit my other tank cars?

It's just a month since open heart surgery. I'm still limited to <10lbs lifting and by the late afternoon I'm out of energy so this weekend I'm going to try to work on the layout in the mornings

Friday is clean up day in my little hobby room. Then trim down the uprights on a plastic shelf so I can rotate the layout 90° and get to the backside. Normally I could scoot under the layout but not since surgery. Building on a HCD will work out great in this respect.

Friday afternoon I need to catch up on the lead up to Indy.

Saturday I need to fine tune building placement and cut styrene for sidewalks and curbs before I can start on concrete roads.

Sunday there is only one thing on my mind. It is the one sporting event I really enjoy, The Indianapolis 500! I'll start watching coverage as soon as broadcast begins. Before the race I'll continue on sidewalks and curbs.

Monday is a time to remember, reflect and thank God I wasn't called on to give all.

My uncle who I never met, George Herman Lamb was killed in action on Saipan Jun 23, 1944. He was only 17 when he was killed. He had lied about his age in order to enlist in the Marine Corps. Semper Fi Uncle George.

I enlisted in the Marine Corps at seventeen, left for boot camp just after turning eighteen. I'm not a combat veteran. I can tell you not a day goes by that I don't think about the brave men and women, many actually just kids, that made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

Have a nice weekend, enjoy being with loved ones, and take time to remember those who sacrificed everything for this country.

    Happy Memorial Day Weekend all!

Friday: Set up the workbench for more bridge work and get started on the rebuild of the box truss bridge floor.
Saturday: More bridge work, cleaning up in the train room, and possible grilling. Also, may plant the new crop of basil and parsley in the herb garden.
Sunday: Will be a free day of modeling. Not sure what I get around to on the bench or in the layout room. Will also definitely be grilling
Monday: Same as Sunday for both modeling and grilling.

Long weekends with mostly train plans and grilling rocks. Best of all worlds. We'll see what happens Tuesday. Be safe all.

Progressing on the lay out of my engine terminal, lots of custom cut lengths of Kato Unitrack to optimize my space. Will have family visiting and will definitely catch the Indianapolis 500.

Good morning from cloudy and rainy Northeast Ohio where I am waiting for a chest X-ray prior to open heart surgery next week. Hope to get some models painted this weekend so I have some cars to decal while recovering.

My son is flying in tonight to be with us prior to surgery.

Similar to logging loco I never met my uncle who was murdered by the Japanese after his ship the Jean Nicholet was torpedoed in the Indian Ocean. I was named after him as I was the first one born after the war.

I will see if I can finish up adding electrical pickup to an old Rivarossi double window heavyweight coach so I can hang LED light marker lanterns on the tail end. It is for my three car MKT local train. I modified some of the newer Mirotrains heavyweight trucks with Kato phosphor bronze side frame inserts and wiper strips as well as Kato wheel sets to get all wheel pickup. I am forever tinkering with new ways to do it.
I have no other plans other than to chill out. Maybe an early morning bike ride or two before it gets too hot.
May try to do some research on my uncle who was KIA in New Guinea during WWII.

I'm going to be spray painting a bunch of Design Preservation Models kits brick red, decaling 3 Atlas GP 9 locos for the Southern Railway, building a Walthers Cornerstone kit or two, finalizing my planned layout's track plan...

    Hmm... maybe I whacked
Kiz's head a little too hard
    when he brought me my
    breakfast bananas really
    late this morning...

Yes. A time to remember the fallen. Those we owe so much to. Great sacrifice by great often ordinary people from a great country. Also, we stand with our forum pals who are recovering or are going to recover from medical issues. (y) Seems like many of us are straightening things up. I in fact felt compelled to redesign the drive link I use. Seems to work better. One step forward. Oddly, I thought of a method to make improved car ribs. Just a few days after I completed the rib side hoppers. Currently I am working on that. Next? I dunno'. As one has said, "a stack of projects". All have a fun and safe holiday. :D

    - That's a session where I get to be the conductor and/or engineer. :)

Yes, time to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day.

As to my weekend, I think my modeling opportunities will be limited. There is a birthday party this afternoon. One soccer game at midday tomorrow and two on Sunday. We are traveling on Monday.

My little objective is to make some modified passenger car window shades. Revs 1 and 2 were not entirely to my liking and it is a good project to bring the laser back on line.

My big objective is one I need everyone's input on. In less than two weeks we hit the road to Nashville and the N Scale Convention. I am deciding if I want to chronicle the journey as a thread here. So couple questions:

    1. Good idea or bad idea?
    2. If good idea, where should I put the thread: N Scale, Cattle Car or somewhere else?

    What say you?

    Good morning all,

After a few hot days during the week, it looks like we are back to cooler, windy weather in these parts for the holiday weekend.

Just got a new printer and will be working on setting it up. Hope this one will do decals better than the last one. I used to get some really good decals from the one before it.

Other than the multitude of household chores to do I hope to continue with the scenery on the Carlin section of the layout. I ordered a new dermal tool and when it gets here I will continue on my efforts to scratch build a pair of flashing grade crossing signals.

I join with all of you in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable weekend whatever you end up doing.

Well, it all depends... I have been fighting an ugly sinus infection all week, and it has backed into my ears- One rather badly. There have been ongoing projects in my apartment and building, as they catch up on a winter backlog. So my need to rest and get over this infection has been severely set back. I may just sleep when possible, (I have to work as well), this weekend. Not what I want to be doing. But what the ol' body is commanding. :(

As to the Holiday- My WWII Veteran father, who passed away last year, would have been 102 today.

Good Idea, and I would use the Inspection Pit, seems like a catch-all to me.

definitely good idea - especially with pictures. As to where - maybe do a special thread under N scale?

    Good idea.

Possibly broken into a couple of segments. The trip being non-model RR, such as seeing trains and such along the way? Perhaps best in a railfan type category? The convention, being N of course, in N Scale. :)

Not sure what we will do this weekend. Hoping for negative covid tests today. Even with that the wife will still be restricted. I do need to wash the car. Will throw something on the grill if the weather permits.

I have a few express reefer to build. I have four Tropicana reefers and a RF&P caboose to weather. There is one more Tropicana reefer to assemble after I change the number.
