Welcome everyone to the gateway to a Memorial Day long weekend. I hope you are ready as we start the unofficial start of summer. Let's get started.

Saturday: My oldest brother is visiting for the month of June and he arrived in Illinois the other day. Angela's Aunt is also up visiting from Florida, so we plan to have a mini family reunion of sorts with Angela's Grandma, Dad, Aunt, Niece and my Brother. We plan to cook out and enjoy the sunny mid 60's weather. After a few long and stressful weeks with little to no time to myself, I'm, looking forward to a bit of relaxation.

Sunday: I plan to take it easy in the morning and play with trains at some capacity. My brother will be over at some point as I remove the old stairs and deck and later relax with a fire pit and some adult beverages.

MEMORIAL DAY: Not sure yet. It maybe another day to relax and observe. We recently lost a local police officer who was gunned down needlessly. This has hit us hard as he was a husband of my Doctor, community leader and a father to three daughters.

I say it every year, and I'm sure by now, some of you are tired of hearing it, but I will never stop, never apologize. Memorial Day is not a day to save on a cheap mattress, or dinette set, it's not about a day off from work and cook outs. While all of that may be fun distractions, remember we have those freedoms because selfless men and women answered a call and paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

So have a great weekend, get some modeling done this weekend if you can. Be happy, be safe, stay healthy...

    High Greens!

    &

    HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Good morning and happy long weekend!

We have plans here and there throughout the weekend, but will for the most part be home and spending some good time in the layout room and workshop.

Plans (all subject to change due to whims and circumstance):
    • More work on the Highland Paint Co. building.
    • Tidy up some electrical work below the bench
    • Run some trains.
    • Start seriously looking into permanent piers for on of my bridges so I can begin scenery/water below the 2 bridges at the front of my layout.
    • "Maybe" some rolling stock work at the workbench.
    • Something involving the Big Green Egg smoker and pork fat. (y)

Friday and Saturday I will be at work. Sunday I need to celebrate my wife’s birthday. After that I wil be working on some electronics. Building a booster setup for the modules. Don’t know where I will go from there. I have most of the week off so I may get something done.

Last week I got out a brass bridge kit that I've had stashed away for a long time and started building it. So modeling wise that is what I will be working on this weekend. Maybe by Tuesday I'll have enough done to show some photos of it. Everyone enjoy the long weekend whatever you are doing.

Hope to get some decaling done on a 40' Boxcar, 50' TOFC Flat and a 45' Trailer to go on to the flat. I also need to mask the roof and paint a 40' HY-Cube boxcar.

Need too finish installing the lift rings on the roof of a C-424 and then get it painted. Complete the tie downs on the transformer load on a depressed center flat and start work on a C36-7 now that I have the proper parts for the conversion.

Sunday, I have to go to Toledo and work on the finances for my wife's sister that is have some trouble.

    See you all later!

If plans hold I'll be making lots of sawdust this weekend, some in support of MRR efforts.

First, I and some MRR friends will memorializing a lost comrade who dies last week of a massive heart attack. His memorial service is in Maryland tonight, and after the locals will be gathering trackside for a toast and night railfanning at his favorite spot. I'll the running trains and raising a glass down here in support.

I have these plans for a shop tool cart that I want to make into my airbrush station. The compressor will go on the bottom, fume hood on top and paints and airbrush parts in the drawers. Assuming that comes together the way I want then it will be a start to a reno for the workshop portion of the garage. I have plans drawn up to add drawers to my existing workbench, as well as for cabinets to mount over it. Over the summer I'll also be adding another workbench with more drawers and more upper cabinets, all based on the Ultimate Shop Cabinet plan set. A more efficient shop space will ultimately translate into more benchwork, so . . . .

    Happy Memorial Day!!
To all of our Veterans - THANK YOU!!

My weekend plans start tonight - heading over to my friend's house for "train night" - first semi post-virus gathering. Looking forward to it.

Saturday and Sunday: Continue working on my A-B-B-A F7 set. It's from SP's first batch. Delivered in 1949.

Y'all have a great and safe weekend

I have to program my converted engines (finally got them back!), then figure out who stays and who goes. Way too much redundant motive power.

Depending on how SceneIt feels after yesterday's oral surgery, we'll be gluing the mountain together and get it ready for sculptamold.

Get to show off the layout to some college friends in town, so there will be playing with trains this weekend!

My sympathy to friends and family of the fallen officer. A great loss. Time to remember the sacrifice of the fallen. Also, family gatherings are the real riches. I hope all have a safe and fun holiday. So far I am have building trim in place and am working on door and window framing. Some extra errands are in the mix too.

Not sure what projects we will do around the house this weekend. I have a bunch of little ones. If the rain subsides perhaps, we will work in the gardens. I need to get propane if we are to use the grill this weekend. Since today is pension day a trip to the grocery store may happen.

Tomorrow my wife, daughter, and I are going to Strasburg to ride behind N&W #611. We are doing the Wine and Cheese Train. I have not ridden behind or seen 611 in person since the 1987 NRHS Convention in Roanoke.

I would like to work on the layout and the several PRR passenger cars I need to tune up.

Back in town after a weekend away. Looking forward to some quality time with the trains, but first Sharon and I will grab a bite to eat at a local establishment. Curious to see how busy the community will be as the weekend promises reasonable weather.

I got a little done on the Vandy tender for UP 2295 today. Hope to accomplish the following by Monday night:

Attach the upper walkway to the brackets.
Drill the upper handrail mounting holes.
Re-attach the drain channels I removed. (Got a little ahead of myself on that one.)
Attach the ladders I previously built.
Build the upper handrails. (Not sure what material I am going to use yet, so might be a delay on that.)

Since the above involves adhesives and cure times, there will be time between steps for other projects.

I am ready to turn the revised boiler. The turning should be easy. The setup plan, however, is not complete. Stay tuned.

Should I find myself with idle hands I can reassemble the frame, motor and gears. Not ready to install the drivers yet, but the pilot wheels need to be modified so perhaps I will get to that as well.

No fixed plan yet, but I expect to see my son this weekend. And, yes, there will be time spent remembering those no longer able to share the family table. Thankful for their sacrifice and missing their company.

    Stay safe,

Might be ambitious but this weekend I want to finally finish this n scale CF7 project. I did a lot of fiddling throughout the week but really I make the best progress on weekends when I have more time to design, test print, tweak design, test print some more, rinse and repeat. I need to design the fuel tank, the horns and the pilot area and then it should be in its final form.

    Enjoy your weekend, all! -Mike

I plan on continuing to work on some used Life-Like and Kato E units that I bought abused. Out of the seven units, I think that I will be able to get six that are going to run well. I had to cannabilize one of the Life-Like units for parts. The two Kato units came with decoders. The decoders are good but the installation was done poorly. I think that I can rectify that.

I plan on using the mechanisms from some of these units to repower some older Life-Like plastic framed units. I’ll probably use the plastic framed Life-Like’s as with the shells that I swapped around to power my maintenance/track cleaning trains.

I also plan on getting a sheet of foam to be able to fix my Kato Unitrack test/break-in track on a permanent kind of setup that can be set up and stored away quickly and easily.

Unseasonably cool and wet weekend ahead, although Monday will be a little bit warmer.

Since last weekend, I have the main track from staging laid all the way out to the end of the staging level benchwork. I did make progress on lower level (above staging) benchwork this morning.

    * I need to raise the height of the stone viaduct to be even with the 39” height of the lower level benchwork.

    * There are three sections of benchwork from the old layout that finally need to be parted out and salvaged. They are taking up space and the salvaged lumber can be put to reuse.

    * Rapidly nearing time to do final planning and preconstruction for the false wall that will support the peninsula. Staging construction up to the lower level cannot continue until that wall has been constructed.

Perhaps I will continue building my HOn30 tank car kit. Or not. I have begun a tedious project of scanning a couple of thousand slides, and that will take a lot of hours....:eek::eek:

Oh boy -- I'm looking forward to seeing what you find in your collection. Editing my slide scans took forever. No matter how carefully I cleaned my slides, all of them required clean-up. I soon learned that railroading and telephone/power lines are commonly found together and removing dust spots in and around wires is maddening.

What I am working on right now are boxes of MILW depot slides. The bulk of which were collected. Lots of years and searches.
