Russ, first of all thank you so, so much for posting all those photos for me! [IMG]

I would like to dedicate these shots I took in Iowa in 1987, to a great guy that Russ and I know from RailroadForums chat.

Ken Schmidt from Mason City, and a UP employee, these are for you!

photo1: This is what the drought of '87 did to the Des Moines River. It is absolutely bone dry. I shot this from the back of a 1902 caboose on the Boone and Scenic Valley RR. It was drizzling too!

photos 2-5: All these shots were taken in Algona, Iowa. I believe it is ex-Milwaukee road territory. The MOW equipment stored there was ancient!

photos: 6-7-8: These are of the Chicago, Central & Pacific in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

photo 9: I shot this along the road somewhere. I forget where. This calcium carbonate will be used in the making of lime.

photo 10: The Kate Shelly Memorial Bridge.

photo 11: 1912 freight electrics still in use in 2004! The Iowa Terminal RR. Mason City.

photo 12: Old Milwaukee Road roundhouse in Algona.

photo 13: Old ICRR sign in Ft. Dodge.

    photo 14: Algona, SOO switching.

photo 15: THE STORM. Doo doo doo doo! My sister-in-law drove 80 MPH into this storm when I shot this! I asked her why and she said we had to hit it fast and furious before it turned into several or one massive twister! That storm is what brought the yellowish sky in all of my Algona pictures. Trust me, that was the color of the sky after that storm!!! I saw hay bales burning in fields after the lightening had hit them! I was rather nervous especially after we had to pull over because of the hail!!!!!!!

photo 16: Transfer caboose in Algona.

Me too Alan! That was really scarry!

And, thanks again to Russ for posting these. if I didn't have computer problems here I would have posted more. I'm sure it took Russ and hour to do it and with his busy schedule I really appreciate it!

And, Boxcab, I guess the old electrics are right up your alley! (They really are in an alley too! LOL! Maybe we can do a write-in and petition them to call it, "BOXCAB ALLEY").

It was no problem and would be happy to add more if you would like. It does take a bit longer for me than most but the job gets done! [IMG]
