Iowa Northern 454 led the South Job northbound shortly after noon approaching Mt Auburn, IA. December 6, 2017 IANR 454 built as Amtrak 314, 384 & 360. Ex-CDAC 384; patched with IANR markings
454 is interesting - it and other F40PHs were converted to freight units for CDAC, but never delivered because CDAC went belly up. They were sold to other RRs including IANR. Montreal Maine & Atlantic took up the CDAC line, and we all remember how that ended. I like the CPR-inspired paint scheme on 454.
Nice video. Plenty of power for some obvious tonnage? What sort of track speeds available here? Any grades with which to contend?
30 mph speed limit, 15-20 on jointed track. Quite a bit of heavy tonnage as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you know how to read to read the size of the rail, its date of rolling, and its date of installation, you just might be a rail nut. Qui Moi? (to quote Miss Piggy)
I zoomed in on some rail yesterday, reading the writing it was installed in July 2017, . . . . ooops, does this make me a foamer??!! Seriously, that paint is so much nicer than the old lemon yellow paint.
