Here's the surprise, maybe not much but its the first time anyone has seen an N Scale Milwaukee electric railway car (2 actually) in N Scale. I have seen a brass Electroliner once at a train show but I think mine is better- certainly cheaper. Both railroads were in close proximity to the Milwaukee road.
Peru Indiana (my home town) crossing the Wabash river. Just to the left is the C&O. The interurban shared a depot with the C&O.
Oldrk, you have proved my point that if you are a transition era modeler you almost must include the electric lines to complete the scene. I model primarily the Milwaukee but in SE Wisconsin the MILW was surrounded by electric lines until 1963. TO me a model of the Milwaukee without the interurbans would be conspicuous by their absence. Randy
Randy- Does someone make the necessary "stinger" pole to equip your models? Or will you need to create your own?
There are some available . There are some very good traction modelers in N scale that use live overhead but I'm not sure I want to go that far. For now the interurban models are just scenery for the main attraction that is the Milwaukee road in 1949. I guess I'm really picky when it comes to trolley poles , power drives, wheel sizes and all that. Most of what is available doesn't suit my anal criteria. Randy
Nice thread! Makes me nostalgic for the old over heated PCC cars the MBTA used to run. Maybe I can add a short point to point something. Hmmm, maybe not.
Rode those many times during my year-plus up in Boston. The Green Line from North Station south all the way to the end of the line was just one of the many times I road those beautiful cars during this time. Fond memories from many years ago now... thankful I still remember them but then how can a person forget the squealing on the tight curves!!!
Here is a blueprint from 1928 in Peru Indiana showing the Chesapeake and Ohio and Union Traction Company joint facilities. The C&O is horizontal at the bottom. This corresponds with the pictures I posted earlier.
Interurban moving north off of interurban bridge which is in back and angling southwest. The bridge right in back is actually the highway bridge coming into Peru. The C&O is diagonal to the highway bridge directly in front of the highway bridge and in back of the depot running east and west. The interurban car is probably on the diamond that crosses the C&O
Well, there's more in that post card view which has me curious. But I am getting close to hijacking Randy's topic...
Don't worry about hijacking the thread , they make new ones everyday ! Besides, if its about interurbans and their effect on a scene its right on topic. Randy
