Here are some pics of the indoor layout I am constructing above my 24 X 36 garage.

Now to stow the rest of the boxed trains under the benchwork and hang the side curtains.

Have run three trains at once for a while. MUST be on your toes for that! I am converting most locos to battery capabilities as well as track tho once done track power will probably rarely get used.

Oh how I wish for 24' by 36'! But I've only 10 by 14.

Do you have a track plan? Are the tracks under benchwork active staging? Or accessed strictly by 0-5-0 switcher?

    :D

I haven't figured how to post the track plan unless I take a pic of a rough drawing of it. The tracks under the bench are just for storage at present. At some point I may try to route them to the upper level.

Heres a few more pics of some action on the RR:

NOW THAT is cool!! I would like to see a track plan too ;) . I used to have a G gauge around the upper wall of my son's room but never dreamed of an actual layout. Hmmmm, maybe time to think about one now...Tell me more about the battery powering. I have two of the early Bachmann "Big Hauler" battery power 4-8-0 engines. Used to like to run them at Christmas under the tree as well as on the shelf railroad. Anyway, great stuff. Keep the pics coming!! :D

    John,

I am using Aristo Crafts Train Engineer remote control system placed inside a trailing car. For power I use two 9.6 volt 3000 mah in series. The car is wired with a jack for the power controlled by the TE. Wires are run thru the tender with a jack on one end and a plug on the other which fits the trailcar jack. The loco is wired with a jack fitting the plug on the front of the tender.

The two wires on the loco feed to the motor in the case of your remote controlled battery powered Bachmanns. Locos made to run on track power can be fitted with a switch. The switch cuts the connection from the track pickups to the motor and connects the battery feeds when switched one direction and removes battery feed and reconnects track power when flipped the other. That allows you to run on any layout and not feed battery power onto the track and screw up someone else's loco that is running on track power.

It really is the best way of operating. Try doing switching manuvers on a track powered layout with more than one train!

Andre', I am stunned. THAT is just too cool. You should have a lot of fun with that for a looooong time. Looks like some weathering, at least on that black SP box.

    And Welcome to TrainBoard!

If you get the chance can you do up a wiring schematic to post? I have the train controller (originally for use with my On30 layout but that soon will be DCC). Of course, I already am battery powered, except for a basket case electric I have. Anyway, this is a huge inspiration. Thakns,

    John,

Rather than I try to learn how to do that I'll direct you to the folks I learned from! try this link:

    http://www.girr.org/girr/tips/tips7/battery_rc_tips.html

Near the bottom of the article he has several schematics.

His site is a wealth of knowledge and can be perused for hours.

This is great. If I can keep my old G models running I will be a happy camper!! Years ago I tried rechargables in these but in those days the battery technology just was not there. Bet they are better now??

    John,

Yes, the battery technology is so much better. Paul (webmaster and member of the site I listed above (www.ovgrs.org)) has told me that they have gone from trailing power car - an old box car or whatnot - to onboard batteries in the smallest spaces. Look at their project pages.

I noticed that they are moving that way. very cool. Of course my old B-mans were battery powered to begin with. now the question is can I get their technology up to speed.

This specific battery technology, really started advancing, with popularity of of R/C racing. Cars and boats. They needed lighter weights, and better charging abilities.

Cool layout. It looks really fun.

I like how you just seem to run whatever you like without worrying too much about prototype.

Feel free to post more pictures as you progress.

    Thanks
