I got my copy of this a few days ago. For you younger generation steam fans who never had a chance to read the wonderful prose of David P. Morgan or witness the photography of Phil Hastings, this is for YOU. As I suspected, it is a "rerun" of the stories first appearing in Trains mag between 1953 and 1957, and released as a book, "The Mohawk That Refused to Abdicate, and other stories" in 1975. Morgan had a way with words that is unrivaled, and Hastings was a great photog. I highly recommend this special edition from Classic Trains. This one has 10 of the original 30 stories, so I look forward to a "Volume 2 and 3" and sure hope they will publish them. :teeth:

I'm familiar with the people's names, and story titles noted. But have never actually seen that book. Argh. Am so far behind on my book wish list, likely never will get to read it...

I'm into it now, and have to give you just a sample of DPM's prose:
""Steam is-what's left of it-as steam was, and if anyone has bolted together a mechanism with just 50 percent its solid spiritual satisfaction, he hasn't filed for a patent yet."
On the first page of "Always Look Back" are two photos of Milwaukee Road 261 in service in the 1950's, looking grubby like Steve Sandberg would never allow her to look these days. :teeth:
