By that I mean simulators. There are alot out there, with only a few worth their salt. These are from Microsoft Train Simulator, an old program as computer programs go. (from 2001) Still with everything out there for it, this is still a train rollin' strong! Any one else have simulators on the computer? Cody Pic 1. NS 6687 leads a train through Newark. Pic 2. I sure there are a few folk here that also enjoy this part of the hobby... :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin: :tb-biggrin:
I have a number of routes: The six original, Donners, Cajon, Tehatchapi, Kicking horse Pass, Raton, Glorietta Pass, NEC Verson 4, Willamette Pass, Swansea (Wales UK) Crawford Hill, RF&P Route. I would have more but my computer might crash! I am the Technecal and resource Coordinator for the museum (linked at the bottom of my post) and we have a simulator there so I get routes try them here then install them there. My next project: Have an activity that covers Cajon Pass to Chicago running a S-LACCHI When there is a Los Angeles route created I'll add that in as well.
Seven or eight years ago, I had access to a computer with a Video Toaster Lightwave 3D modeling, rendering and animation program. It was neat "building" my dream layout in 3D and then "flying" a video camera over it in a helicopter following the trains. I have started building the layout but an inlaw who was kicked out of his apartment took over my intended train room and I had to put the layout sections in storage. Bummer! Oh well, I can look at my old images....
Yeah...I have a bunch of train stuff on my computer.......Microsoft Train Simulator, plus the Pro Train II add-on, Trainz Railroad Simulator, plus the usual Railroad Tycoon series, and the track planning stuff. I enjoy most of it, but most of it is more time consuming than I have the time to spend on it.
I had a few times tried TrainSim. But: I have a layout where I can run my trains, operate with friends. Parts of the layout are nearly finished. Why take the image when I can have the real? Wolfgang
I agree, but I don't have the room, and besides, I can be an engineer on routes and see places I'd never get to. Its a blast either way, but If I get the space again, I'll be pulling out my models.
Yeah, I'd have more, but the same problem holds me back.:tb-sad: Still I have: 6 default Streamlines: Stevens Pass, Seligman. Maple Leaf Tracks: Bridge Line, Sandpatch, Willamette, Sushwap (CP), Niagara Corridor (CN). Free from Train-sim.com: Marias Pass 3.1, L&HR V3.0, Lehigh Valley V2, WM Lurgan, B&O E division (Cumberland,MD to Brunswick,MD), NECv4, Newark and Jersey City. Plus about 2000 engines and 4000 cars, and I still don't have enough. :tb-rolleyes: I always thought about getting Kicking Horse Pass, is it any good? I tried Trainz, but my computer couldn't really handle it. Microsoft Train Sim works great though, with BIN it works even better. I agree with that, I have always had the same thinking, but the layout isn't anywhere near done yet, so it's the second best thing.
Here's some more shots! I hope they're better then my first batch. 1. Classic GN power in Everett, Washington. 2. A few miles out of town. 3. GN F45's with loaded grain in the same area. 4. The rear end of the grain train.
