I joined trainboard.com in 2009 but haven't posted much here -- and just realized that I may not have posted an introduction. So, I'm about six years late! I model a ficticious small town on the Santa Fe Los Angeles Division Second District (between Pasadena and San Bernardino, CA) in HO. You can see images of it on my club's website: http://trainweb.org/20s30s/memCH.html I'll have to get after the webmaster (me) to increase the resolution of the photos -- I posted many of them back when a lot of folks had slow internet connections. I've been a serious model railroader since the early '70s. I don't have a home layout -- just the one 6' module and an adjacent club corner module.
Thanks for the introduction an a bit about your modeling. Glad to have you participating and sharing your work. Cool stuff.
Sorry, no eucalyptus trees at this time. The "actual" location of my made-up town is intended to be between Claremont and Upland. The town's name has been Las Palmas for several decades but I may be changing it to Padua. On a different topic, I'm building a 1939-era Santa Fe California Limited (hence my avatar) heavyweight passenger train. My glacier-like pace can be seen here: https://steamblog.wordpress.com/
Hi, and welcome. I'm curious about the possible name change to Padua. Is this a reference to the city in northern Italy, and its massive passenger rail traffic? Modeling this might be a challenge... From Wikipedia...Padua has two railway stations open to passengers. The main station Stazione di Padova has 11 platforms and is sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Padova Centrale"; it is one of the biggest stations in Italy. More than 450 trains per day leave Padova. The station is used by over 20 million passengers per year.
Holy cow! I grew up in Claremont! I live in the South Pasadena area. Welcome to the board! Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
I think its to do with the Padua Hills Theater in Claremont. Use to be a big blvd in that town which is now Mountain (formerly Padua Ave) Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Thanks, guys, for all the interest in my intro. Hytec made a good guess about the Padua name origin but J911 is correct. The residential area around the Padua Hills Theater is informally known as Padua Hills or merely Padua. My idea is that in the late 1800s it extended a couple of miles south to the Santa Fe tracks where it rated a siding and a station sign but no depot since depots at Claremont (to the west) and Upland (to the east) were so close. The origin of the Padua name here (Claremont, CA) isn't known for sure. There are several unsubstantiated stories but few facts. In real life, Padua Ave. still exists north of Baseline Road. To the south of Baseline it was renamed Monte Vista (I think, after it was realigned to connect to Monte Vista that existed farther south). Mountain Ave. is actually a couple of miles east in Upland.
