    Hi Joe,
Been awhile, hope your still reading the boards. just a thought on MT container cars (WW II nose art for example). It would be really, really nice if the flat cars had the indents that would accept the pins on the bottom of the containers. can only make it around my track 2-3 time and one of the 11 will fall off. I'll figure something out to keep them there but just a suggestion. Love the set otherwise, it's really a cool and always gets comments ;)

That is a great idea. I have the nose art series too and ended up just taking the containers off and putting tanks on held by magnets because I got tires of dealing with the container falling off.

Dave, How about contact cement? Excellent tensile strenth but easily sheers off if you want to remove the load (just twist the container load while holding the flat car). The residual glue just rolls right off when you rub it with your fingers. Bestine is safe to use on most paints and plastics but Ive never used it on any MTL cars. I do know its safe to use on ABS. If it does not melt everything and does not take off the paint job and graphics, it could be used to remove any contact cement in nooks and crannies your fingers could not get.

    I use Fixo-Gum. Is perfectly.
    Rubbing-of with a finger.
No marks on the car, if you take away the container.

Thanks guys I'll give them a try. never heard of Fixo-gum sounds interesting. I've noticed when the cars are in the storage box. the containers don't sit center of the flat car. Does the Fixo-gum stay soft?

Even if I make a laser cut template, we could not drill holes with the accuracy needed (they would have to be oversize).
I like the rubber cement option.
Marabu Fixogum is not available in the US. Available on the UK Amazon site but not shipping to the US.

Well that explains why I've never heard of Fixogum. I was thinking of drilling some oversized "dimples" and sanding down the container pegs a bit. that would require some paint but not off the list. I store the cars in there boxes and noticed when it is in there the support plastic pushes the container to the top. in other words the container is sitting on one side of the flat car. I'm worried that if I glue with rubber cement putting it back in its box will damage it.

Dave, normally if you use rubber cement correctly, you apply it to both sides, let it dry and then join the two surfaces together to get a tight bond as I'm sure everyone already knows. But what I've done with some of my concept heavy equipment models that I wanted to be able to have the option of removing components (like an enclosed cab) is to intentionally use it incorrectly. I apply it to only once surface and while its still wet, join the parts together. Its more then tacky enough to hold the parts together and still easy to take apart without destroying the surfaces the glue is applied to. You might be able to just apply some rubber cement just on the nubs of the containers with a tooth pic and then apply the container to the flat car before it dries. Should be more then enough to keep them on while running and easy to take off. You'll have minumum if any residuals of rubber cement left on the flat car or container. But that should easily rub off with your fingers or anything soft that will not hurt the finish. Try it out on a piece of scrap (something I need to do more often myself...) or a car you dont like or care about, if that exists. Of course you would have to repeat this process every time you want to store these in boxes or take them out to run or display. That might be a pain in the butt.

Well, while you are at it, tell him he is knocking it out of the park with the weathered rolling stock!

Thanks for all the suggestions, will give them a try this weekend. Thinking about building a case for the set and rubber cementing the containers on the cars. And bremner thanks for forwarding to Joe.
