I caught these two in Walpole NH over the 4th of July Weekend this past year. I actually like this scheme. Same place. I always thought that if Guilford got rid of that orange stripe and replaced it with a blue stripe for B&M locos, green for MEC locos and maroon for ST locos, it would have been a huge improvement. did the 40's you saw look like either one of these?
Yah they were all in Guilford scheme, #332 behind the engineers side has a small blue patch while on the other hand the other engine that had the words boston and maine on it was the #312
