I am thinking about making a new N scale layout and I want to expand from a 3x5 to a 4x8 layout. The new design is wanted because I don't have near enough yard area and I would like to have a reverse loop to help parking in the yard. I have looked at many designs and this one is my favorite so far.. I am not sure about the little bit of track in the left center area and wondering where a reverse loop of decent size would work. I like to run 20+ cars and any suggestions are welcome. I also am try to keep to 13" radius as a minimum but I suppose I can do 11" if needed.

A thought, instead of a reversing loop. Why not move one or two switches closer to that large building in center? (The structure with the stub track at right end.) Then add a couple of switches at the other end of two yard tracks. This way an engine or two could come in head first, then escape and run back out around their train.

I built a 2 track main twice around loop in a 4.5'x8.5' space using 12" minimum radius. I put the yard you have along the lower edge in to the other side of the main so that it sits between the loops. I can reach the yard through 4 approaches. Here's the track plan.

I see a number of S curves you may want to work on, the worst ones being near the station in the middle.
