I need advise on layout of a Shay/Climax logging RR on a 4x4 sheet of plywood. I want to use Styrafoam for Mts. and am thinking of a double-loop. Whats the tighest radius I can get away with? Tks. RP PS I forgot to mention this is one module of 5 I have built. The others are 2'x4' [This message has been edited by RPMorgan (edited 02 January 2001).]
In HO with SHORT log cars and Climax or Shay locos, I think you could go as small as 15" radius. However The largest complete circle you will get will be 18" radius. Possible to do 1 cilcle of track, then head for a diagional corner with a tight radius curve. then add switchbacks to gain more elevation, with a pasing siding at the top and bottom.....Mike [This message has been edited by Mike C (edited 02 January 2001).]

Yes 22 will work but it will be awful close to the edge, and wont leave much room for scenery.....Mike
Hey Mike! The switchbacks were an excellent suggestion. I tried a single but was to much grade then configured a double and it works fine. Thanks for the suggestion my little MDC Climax pulls 5 log cars without a hitch. Now to the permanent track laying...Rich
