Hey all. I'm reentering the hobby after 50+ years. As a youngster our dad introduced model railroading to me and my brother with adn 8'x4' American Flyer layout. I spent many hours with their catalog building a life-long and yet-to-be satisfied desire to have a Super Chief. However, I'm starting off with small goals, an Amtrak Southwest Chief with and a Christmas tree loop. After the American Flyer beginning I did build Lynn Wescott's HO Railroad that grows and had great fun with that. Recently I did locate a local model railroad club and found a bunch of guys my age with a broad range of knowledge. However, I was also encouraged to join this forum by my eldest son, an experience N scaler. So here I be!

exactly. I hear the whistles all night from Victorville and have been to the Cajon Pass VirtualRailfan camera. Here's a picture I took of 'The Narrows' looking east from the Victorville station. Narrows from VV.jpg

I love driving through there. On trips from the Bay Area to San Diego, we've been known to "turn left at Bakersfield" on 58, rather than heading over the Grapevine and the morass of LA. Usually a quick stop at the Loop, then over the hill, a right turn at Boron, and down 395/15 to SD.

Welcome aboard, Bob. Good to hear that the hobby is a family affair. Got to do a fair bit of railfanning out your way some time back while on temporary duty at Irwin.

Practically neighbors, then--I was stationed at Edwards for a couple of years (1991-93). One of my co-workers commuted from Victorville to Edwards; probably more than we realized due to the BRAC and drawdowns of those days. Loved going through Rosamond to see the SP trains of the era and was grateful for how well a certain donut shop was constructed being literally a stone's throw from the tracks! Made a few trips to Bakersfield and I have never gotten over the tunnels and the Loop-amazing doesn't even come close. Here's wishing you all kinds of success in model railroading!
