Hello I've been playing err.. working with scale trains a lot of my life. I'm collecting a fairly good collection of N, HO, O scale. Have just a little of S scale. I have a 7 year old daughter who probably loves trains more than I do. Here's a little video we made a few years ago with her trains. Here's an N scale layout I picked up about 15 years ago. I haven't done much with it. I would like to get it up and running. Currently, we have one loop functioning. Sorry about how dirty it is and the low light pictures. I'm working on cleaning it up. I am VERY interested in DCC++! Using a computer to control a layout has been a long unfulfilled wish for me! I'm still trying to figure out what all is needed. I know each Locomotive needs something inside it. I know the computer needs software to run. I know there needs to be an interface between the computer and the layout. Am I close? LoL~! Some of my engines and rolling stock. Thanks for looking! Hope to have some progress pictures in the near future!
Welcome! I look forward to hearing about your progress. Your daughter displays a unique talent for dispatching.
Hi Dan, welcome, glad to have you on board. That's quite a collection you have there. The layout skeleton should give you a good framework to build on. Please keep us posted with your ideas and photos as you continue.
Hi Dan. Great project! Looking forward to following your restoration progress. Welcome to TrainBoard.
Welcome, welcome, welcome! I like your spaghetti bowl. I have one of my own. A lot of railroading in a small space is about the only positive thing I can say. DCC is 20 years old or older and has what appears to be some inherent flaws built into it. Two things I'd recommend you take a look at is DCS which is using your WIFI to run trains and Bachmann's latest revolutionary Blue Tooth or BlueRail Trains. I saw a friend of mine demoing his Blue Tooth application at a train show in Bakersfield, Ca. I was impressed. More on this on BarstowRick.com. Another thing to look at is what they are calling Dead Rail. It uses DCC but operates off of batteries RC.
Late to the party, but here's another welcome! And I'm quite jealous, she has a bigger layout than I do right now!
I am not new to model building. I am new to model railroad layout and scenery planning and building which I could use some suggestions. I am also looking for help in implementing the computer based controlling system. I downloaded the Base station zipped folder but didn't see any install feature. Perhaps I need to go to a different part of the forum to find the answer. I couldn't find that either. One thing I would like to do is to have an identical Z scale running around a mountain top after my N scale enters a tunnel (and of course, stops, and the Z scale starts up) implying height change. I do have a fair amount of HO scale too. Again, thanks for all of the warm welcomes!
You might name the mountain after a local weight reduction gym or spa and enjoy the look on visitors' faces as the Z-Scale emerges from the tunnel....
