Hey everyone Glad to be here. I'm an old Rock Island modeler and love the Rock Island history. I've been modeling the Rock Island, off and on, for nearly 50 years and I'm still not finished...go figure. Anyway I'm always begging for new pictures, stories, and historical facts and anything I have is always available for sharing as well. Oh, I model in HO... I lived in Blue Mountain, AR for most of my life and left when I joined the military. When I came back home, the Rock was on the way out...it was a sad day for me, I had always dreamed of working for the line one day. Lots more to tell but I'll save it for later. Again, thanks for having me aboard!
Welcome from another member of the Fallen Flags club! You'll find out soon enough that there are others here with the same choice of road, so you shouldn't have to look far for assistance there. Side note - where/when did you serve? Asking here as an old Cavalryman...
Welcome to TrainBoard! There are fans and modelers here, of the RI. Several N scalers for certain. Just gotta convince the rest of them to step out of the shadows.
Hello ironwolfusa. I just joined TB and came across your intro. I like you am trying to model the RI in N Scale if these 71 year old eyes will let me. I worked for the RI in Topeka for 17 years as a switchman until the RI folded. If I can be of any assistance with RI history or photos from this area let me know. Pilgrim.
Welcome aboard, I lived along RI tracks for the first 20 years of my life in Chicago. First along the mainline tracks at 68th St and then across the street from the RI Suburban Line at 103rd St. in Beverly, then half a block away at 99th St. in Beverly. I am currently trying to rationalize an interchange with the Northern Pacific near SPUD in Minnesota. They were close, but didn't meet (as far as I know). Enjoy the forum! I have found it pretty awesome.
BTW - here is a pic of a train I'm trying to get operating well. The RI Aerotrain, saw it run many times on the Chicago South Side. HO Scale Rock Island Aero Train w/ DCC by Doorgunnerjgs posted Nov 13, 2016 at 10:20 PM
Good to hear that there are others who remember the Rock Island. I'll try to pass along whatever I have available. Bear with me as I'm not very efficient on a computer.
