I photographed this Great Northern trailer today in Maple Valley, WA. The trailer was just sitting in a storage lot. Joe
I hope you plan to show that picture around to some museums. Someone may want to restore it and put it on display near other Great Northern equipment.
Good idea SD70mac, I didn't even think of that. I will have to get ahold of the group that does the restorations up at Snoqualmie which is near here. They have train excursions on weekends and a bunch of old equipment up there. Joe
Excellent. Post here how it comes out. Even if they don't want it, they might know who would and do the restoration for it. It would be an unusual change of pace to restore a truck trailer, I would imagine.
As much as I like Intermodal equipment, I doubt it has as big of a following when it comes to "preservation". I used to see a trailer with B&O emblems used as a storage trailer near an Interstate work zone. The NS yard around here still has an old Southern trailer (40') Harold
Wow!! Whereabouts in Maple Valley is that?! I live in Covington just up the street and my dad and I would love to see that!!
There are several old railroad-owned trailers that have been converted into woodchip / sawdust transport service around here. So far I have seen 2 Penn Central, 3 Seaboard Coast Line, and 2 Chessie System trailers in probably the last week or two. All of which still used daily.
Neat. I lived in that area for the best part of 50 years. Never saw this trailer. Looks like it's intact enough to be preserved! I wonder if any RR museum has ever considered the idea? The group in Snoqualmie had a GN track crane, and a reefer. Can't say what they still have, as things there changed a bit the last ten years. And I have been gone the past 7. Boxcab E50
I saw a Rio Grande trailer for DECADES out by the Cleveland, OH Ford plant. Finally, I remembered to it and tried to get a pic.... It was GONE!! Moral and reason for post: Take the picture while you can!!!
