Hello. I recently finished the benchwork for my HO 1' by 12' urban switching layout set in the Bronx New York where I reside. My question is that I want to add a flour or grain bulk unloading terminal just like the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal had, but I want something big like the Walthers ADM grain elevator, is this a good kit or shound I scratch build?
I built a N scale Walthers kit and I have to admit it was pain... I don't really have the good tools but I did ok (I guess) with what I had. The silos was the hardest thing to build IMO and I might do my own later on... Materials Used : - Testor Glue - Tooth Picks
Jorge,IMHO the money spent on the Walthers ADM elevator would buy you enough scratchbuilding material to build your whole grain complex.I would use sheet styrene ,Grandt line windows and doors(Pikestuff if you can get them) and PVC pipe for the silos.
Thanks everyone . After reading the answers in the post, I think I will scratch build it. This way I can get a custom fit.
I bought the Walther's grain elevator second hand from some one and I'm not thrilled about it. I probably won't use it on the layout. I find it is too short for my tastes. I'm used to seeing tall dominating structures here in the Vancouver Ports and North Vancouver. The Walther's kit just doesn't have the height it should. You could get silos made easily from PVC pipe.
here in Quebec there's the "BUNGEE" (that's how they call it) elevator that has like 100 silos and endless strings of cylindrical hoppers next to it... no way I'm gonna find the space nor money to model that, though
Hello. I'm gonna scratch build the grain elevator so I can get the height correct so I have the feel of a massive elevator in a small space. How high should it be? Thanks
Hello Colonel. Great shots of your grain elevator. I'm gonna scratchbuild my elevator in HO. How tall should it be so I can capture the height and feel of a massive elevator in a small space? Thanks Jorge
