some deep night creatures tagged a few cp rail boxcars ....

police speaker said they have arrested all 'artists'. according to rumours they now have to clean highways for 500 hours each or do custom graffiti for a few weeks...

    Looks good!

One tip...I'm not sure if you are modeling from photos--and this doesn't apply 100% of the time--but generally you will find that the bottom of the graffiti almost always touches (or is very, very close to) the bottom edge of the car.

One good thing - if you use a photo there's no concern for copyright infringement! ;)

first i placed the decals on the bottom edge. might be prototypical. but for some reason i didn't like it. that's why i moved them further up.

Yes, my sentiments exactly. Unless your graffiti artists are 7' tall...

I like it!!! Even though I HATE taggers one of these days I plan on adding graffiti to most of my modern rolling stock.

Might not like it (and it is your railroad, after all), but if you're going to go to the trouble of making such terrific decals, may as well get their placement right.

Just search Google Images for railroad car graffiti for loads of reference images such as the one above.

To be honest, in this day and age of relatively bland trains filled with similar-looking boxcars and rusted and aging hoppers, graffiti seems to give each car a kind of 'character' in my mind. While I don't particularly enjoy seeing all the dumb graffiti on prototype rolling stock, companies and modelers have found some really cool, artistic graffiti for decals, and they really offer a great conversation starter and show a 'custom' side of bland rolling stock. It's just another part of weathering in my mind.

I usually hate graffiti but I think this is inspired. (Now, were can I get the decals? :) )

Someone in the comments on the Flickr page this is from said two weeks ago, "
Both cars are already assigned to 2 different customer locations therefore once they hit the nearest hump and/or sorting yard they will part ways."

So these two cars may never meet again. Or, if they ever do, they won't necessarily be in the same order. Anyone know whatever happened to the STEELE cars. Did they eventually break up?

If you're interested in finding more railroad graffiti, google "benching," which is the pastime of observing/photographing it.

Recommend Googling "benching graffiti" -- if you Google just "benching", most of the results will be about bodybuilding...

I didn't want to start a new thread on the topic of graffiti, which I abhor. As a case in point, look at what I found today on a CSX signal bungalow that's about a 1/2 mile walk from the nearest road. So then, idealistic people with spray cans and a rock decide to deface private property with their messages of love and respect? Would they react with warmth and kindness if CSX were to visit their homes and do the same to their property? Who exactly is the audience for their directives in a remote location like this anyway?

The hypocrites who worked this crime are themselves part of the problem they decry.
