This may seem like a silly question and I consider myself tech savvy (I do work in IT lol).

I am running into issues uploading image files into RailImages due to the file being too large (odd that I have used my phone with same settings to upload files recently, but oh well).

I do upload most all of my photos to Google Photos. Is there a method where I can embed the URL from the Google photo or Album into TrainBoard?

    Thanks

Hi Matt, if I understand your question correctly, you can click on the photo icon as shown here and enter a URL there.

For some reason google will not allow you to link the image directly but only copy the URL. Guess you have to upload the image here.

They must not allow hot-linking. That stinks.

Did you upload the Google image to Rail Images? And if yes, did you download the image from the Google URL first? The whole silly start to this is that Rail Images is not happy with the size of the image file downloaded from my phone to the PC. I guess I would try posting direct from my phone using the Tapatalk app, but I am getting set in my ways and like using the PC lol. I cant be bothered with that new finagled technology.....OMG I am getting old lol.

I did a screen capture of the google image and uploaded the png file to this thread. That took care of any sizing issues. On my MAC I do shift/command/4 that allows me to crop only the part of the image I want. I don't know how Microsoft would work.

Using Windows 10, I left-clicked on the URL that Matt provided, which opened up the Google Photos page (in a new page). I then left-clicked on the image, and that opened another new page with just the image. From there I was able to save the image (in various sizes) to my PC with a right-click, or download the entire 15.6MB file to my desktop.

    Am I missing something here?

They're not the first photo-hosting site to do that. IMO, it's not a good idea to link to their servers in discussions such as this, in case they change their policy at a future time and all the linked photos become no longer viewable.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I upload a lot of photos to FB and my blog, and I always use IrfanView (free) to crop and resize them first. For most purposes, there's no need to upload a 15.6MB, 108 megapixel image file to the internet if you're only sharing it for viewing.

Any single image of that size is not allowed here.:eek::eek:

PS- I, too, have used IrfanView, for many, many years.
