I assume this is a major industrial facility that is 100, +/-25 years old. It could be anywhere in North America, probably US east of the Mississippi or south-eastern Canada. I doubt if it's in Europe, because a facility of this size would have been destroyed by Allied bombing during WWII, and more modern roofing materials would have been used when it was rebuilt. To my knowledge, galvanized roofing of this type was common during the early 20th Century, but hasn't been used since WWII. Its condition is similar to what I've seen at various 75-100 year old steel mills, blast furnaces, and large factories throughout the Northeast and Great Lakes regions.

What stands out are the two brightly colored locomotives at left center and bottom right. Their brightness is totally out of character with the facility, rolling stock, and surrrounding area. I think they are railroad-owned local turns working cars. If they were facility-owned, they would be as scroungy as the rest of the place. My first impression is Wisconsin Central yellow and red, but my knowledge of all the different color schemes is very limited.

The drainage canal in the upper left, and the main road on the right are significant clues to someone more knowledgeable than I, so I'll just have to wait for Darren's next image. :tb-cool:

Looks like a major locomotive manufacturing site. I have checked Lima, and it ain't there, so will check some others.

Jim, I, like you, initially thought it was a loco or car assembly or repair facility. However, upon further examination I think the rail system is merely a support infrastructure to the primary industry. My rationale is that if the primary product were something large like locos or cars, then we should see outside storage or staging areas for partially and completely finished products. But the yard tracks appear to be merely entering each and every bay, with no exit tracks for large finished products like locos. I suspect that the finished products may be large castings, forgings, or sub-assemblies that can be transported by a boxcar, gon, or flat.

How's that for warped logic......? :tb-wacky:
