Sorry, but Las Vegas NV is in the northern hemisphere and judging by the shadows, this location appears to be in the southern hemisphere. Dan
I think I detect a slight note of sarcasm? Yes, it is southern hemisphere (or perhaps equitorial). The lack of cars and any heavy infrastructure suggests a poorer country. The amount of open space suggests a less populous country. Maybe. The street grid at an exact 45 degree angle to the cardinal directions is rather distinctive. I guess Africa. Can't find it though.
You should go look for these with Google maps or Google earth,And not just throw wild guesses out there. We want "educated guesses". Anyway,Take some time and try either one..... It's fun,And you learn stuff in the process.
The location is deep in the southern hemisphere as indicated by the length of the shadows from the north, possibly as far south as 45 degrees. The switch backs in the road upper left in the lower photo would indicate this is in a country with an emerging economy, i.e. not any money to build interstate-like highways into the mountains. However, they do have a well-manicured soccer pitch in the center of town......~-D) Speaking of mountains, the erosion on the side of the hills would be the result of heavy rains over long periods of time, even centuries. This would indicate Argentina or Chile, rather than southern Africa. Though, I know nothing of New Zealand's topography, but I believe there's lots of rain on South Island. It's always fun reading the progress of these "scavanger hunts", even though I don't have the ability to solve any of them....thanks.
Got it! Esquel, Argentina I could tell by the shadows that it was in the southern hemisphere, and by the length of them there was a chance that it was even south of the Tropic of Capricorn. The railroad appeared to come in from the north and ended. So I started looking for a place that was at the end of a rail line. I looked around in Chilie and Peru, nothing. When I went to look at Argentina, Google Maps just show it as a big white void in "map" mode. So I got out Nock's Atlas and started searching Google Maps for end of track towns, in the "Satellite" mode. Of course having a copy O.S. Nock's "World Atlas of Railways" did help a lot. Dan
Excellent! I'm going to give this one to...... DanRaitz and Hytec Dan is right on and Hytec deduced the country without using Google earth or Google maps! Congratulations Guys! Esquel,Argentina (The end of the Patagonia Express)
Aaawwww... but I LIKE to throw out WILD GUESSES. :w20z6q::bear-biggrin:SURINAME!:rn-wink::w20z6q: (see, there's another wild guess)
Oh, give it to me, too, because Esquel, Argentina, was my very next wild guess. (kidding) Congratulations, Dan Raitz and Hytec.
Congrats Dan, didn't mean to share your thunder....no amount of planning replaces Dumb Luck...:rn-ooh:
