Sweet! Someone finally did this one in... Congrats Keith! I looked everywhere,But the Congo in Africa!
I had looked at Lagos, Nigeria (which looked quite promising at first, btw) but I just didn't go as far south as Congo because I thought it was impossible for the cloud shadow to fall so far to the north in the southern hemisphere. The photo must have been taken in December and the cloud must be higher than it looks. I wonder how long it's been since the yard was used. DR Congo has been in political and economic chaos (and war) since it stopped being Zaire ten years ago.
Interestingly, it was this clue that allowed me to solve the puzzle! Going back over previous contests, I found contest #37 was the one that had everyone stumped for a while. Rereading that thread, plus the clue Charlie gave was all I needed. Much to my surprise! And to think, I hated this stuff while in school.
