Saw these last summer at an intersection, one still in Big Sky Blue, and wondered if any one knew the story? Looks like it was a roadside business at one time.
Thanx. Wld like to dream about one day getting them to a respectable condition again. Sad to see them in such disrepair.
Traded emails with TrainBoard member steeplecab. He had not heard of these cars. He ran through an aerial survey of the route along SR117 and saw nothing at all.
They're located at the corner of Box Car Rd  and MT117 in South Valley, MT Google map link Google street view shows them to be in pretty decent shape. Someone was nice enough to take some photos of the cars and put them on the google map
I guess I'll have to head up there one day next summer and ask around. It's only a couple of hours away. My brother, gcav17, and I were up there looking at the dam flowing so much water out of the overflows, and drove by on the way home. Have some pics, but haven't figured out how to post them yet, will work on that this month.
Last year we ended up with a massive, heavy and wet snowpack. My wife and I were over Marias in mid-June and hit fresh snow. BNSF had crews everywhere doing damage control.
Yup, we were buried here, too. Ended up helping a rancher feed horses in the drifts after plowing the snow every week!! Sometimes twice a week plowing. It was a heavy wet one for sure! And saw that the trains were really getting stuck here and on the line to Hettinger,SD, the old Milw line from Terry. So next spring it will definitely be time to chk those out again. Dreaming!
