Does anyone have an answer or know who could tell me, is the GN depot in Sandpoint, Idaho still standing? My last trip through was in a hurry, so I did not have time to explore but for a few minutes. I saw the NP, where the SI had been and then had to move on.

    Ken,
I had heard it was gone, but I cannot confirm where I heard this. Is there a listing for it on that depot site, of which I cannot remember right now what it is.

    Dan-

RRSHS has no listing. But that does not mean it is gone. They have many gaps. Some of which I have filled in the past year or more. I am also on the trail of a depot in Montana that supposedly was torn down, which I am told is still standing near it's old site.

The reason I asked, is my retired GN friend was wondering. When I passed through that town back in June, the NP was there. The SI was gone, but I ran out of time to explore for the GN.

Looking at Great Northern Empire - Then and Now, it appears that the depot is gone. I cannot personally confirm this, however I have generally found information from that site to be accurate.

As of 2 years ago BNSF MOW is using the former GN depot. It is on the West end of the "yard" where the UP line swings onto the old GN and the POVA come in from Newport.

The depot is still there and being used by the MOW folks. It is located at the end of Main street. I was there about three weeks ago looking at the UP turnout south of the station. The building is in good repair.

    Gary-

A bit off topic; any ideas if the (second) SI depot survived? I saw where my memory says it stood some years ago. Perhaps it was purchased and moved? Not demolished?

The SI depot I am not familiar with it's location. I have looked for pictures of it in on the web and have struck out.

If you look on the GN-NP archive site there is a bunch of pictures of the GN depot. Eric has a link on his NP Sandpoint depot site too. These photos were just added.

    Gary-

I have looked at the GN-NP archive. I could not find any photos of Sandpoint in the GN listings. Where were you looking?

Sorry, I should have provided more information. Click on the Wingfield photo collection. The link is on the left side of their webpage. Photos starting at number 133 show Sandpoint. There are a couple of groups of photos taken at the depot.
