In the GN books I have and post cards I've collected, you never knew what was going to be on the headend! Mostly F's, but I saw one pic of the last run with a geep w/silver trucks, like the F-units on the builder! Oh, and thanks Hemiadda2d for the pic, but a little before my time period.
Any more info in the caption? Boxcab E50 </font>[/QUOTE]That pic was taken on the Seattle waterfront just north of downtown. There is a huge grain elevator there now along with 8-9 tracks and the water on the left has been pushed out about 50-75 yards with fill and there is the waterfront park here now.
That's where I thought it was taken. Looked like Magnolia in the background. Thus is just about where Myrtle Edwards Park is now. Boxcab E50
"GN train, engine number 1457, engine type 4-6-2. Train #5, Cascadian; beside Puget Sound, 4 cars, 35 MPH. Photographed: Seattle, Wash., July 23, 1939."
I have that series, The Cascadians were the day locals between Seattle and Spokane. They handled all the little towns that the Builder ands Western Star Skipped.
The Cascadian Well I searched all seven Great Northern Pictorial volumes and only Volume 4 has pictures of the Cascadian .. both eras (heavyweight and smoothside)... and very few at that. Thanks Kurt ... But I Wonder?!? .. How much all seven volumes as a single collection would be worth? mg: No matter .. I'm not selling in any case. :teeth:
