Hi, I'm glad to be here because this site seems to be a very good place to learn lots and possibly, eventually contribute some. I am attracted to model railroading for all the fine, realistic detail that can be incorporated into the layouts. I really appreciate the lighted buildings working signals, miniature people (even chickens), and lifelike locomotives, especially those with sound. I want to build a prototype railroad, DCC powered, but I am not yet sure which one, what era, what size or what shape. Since I'm from New Jersey I'll choose one of the past or present Jersey railroads. In the meantime, I enjoy reading, researching and just browsing through catalogs and ads. When I get started I'll prefer to spend time setting track, working on scenery and wiring as opposed to building complex kits, although I have a couple. I'm not rushing to get started because, as you all know, many of these fantastic things are quite expensive. I certainly look forward to spending time here.

Hi, Welcome to the train Board. Sounds like you have a good concept. We'll be happy to share, chat, and help in any way we can. Be sure to check out the various model forums for photos and discussions, especially N-Scale which seems to be the most populated. However, don't fixate on a specific scale when browsing, ideas can come from photos and discussions regardless of scale.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

What Hank says: "However, don't fixate on a specific scale when browsing, ideas can come from photos and discussions regardless of scale", is so true. It's very good advice.

Welcome to Trainboard. The HO forums here are not quite as active as the N scale but we have a good group of talented HO modelers. And as pointed out, so much of modeling is not scale specific. Looking forward to you participation.

I don't know if I can speak except for myself, but I was say it anyway. WE are glad to have your hear. I have a really cute step-granddaughter living part-time in New Jersey, and I think often of New Jersey. I especially like the CNJ equipment with the Statue of Liberty picture as part of the herald. I don't know enough about CNJ to know if that would be a good overall prototype, but you ought to be able to have at least a couple of those boxcars on any layout with an NJ setting.

I've been into HO for many years. At one point, years ago, I started planning a layout in N to fit more into a smaller space but ultimately changed back to HO. Actually I probably still have some N gauge crossing signals and possibly more but the new layout will be HO.

I remember seeing a lot of CNJ trains, especially as a kid when we visited my grandparents in Jersey City. Everyone called it the "Jersey Central"! Yes, I should have at least a couple CNJ boxcars on my layout, I'll start watching for one.

I think it would be very interesting to see someone modeling teh CNJ. They had some interesting steam, and diesel paint schemes as well. We don't see many pictures of people concentrating on that specific company!

NJRR_Man, welcome aboard. As the resident steam nut, my suggestion would be to duplicate Ross Rowland's runs through NJ into Port Jervis, NY with the ex-C&O 4-8-4 614.

Yes, if that is the old Erie route then it is one I'm considering and it would probably be early to mid 1950s. Every model railroad should have at least one steam engine!

Yes. That should be the Erie RR line.
