N Scale I confess, I do it. Yep, I have used GHA on a regular bases and not just for re-railing. I have been known to employ GHA for changing the consist a a freight train even though I had a huge yard and plenty of small locos available. So, I ask, What scale? Do you use GHA? When anyone is looking? For more than re-railing? Under what circumstances? I realize this is a tough thing to own up to but, come on, you can do it. Side note: This is intended to be a fun light hearted Sunday morning why not post. Let's not get tooo serious, please. ☻
I run several large steamers, UP Big Boy, Challenger, SP Cabforward, AC-9, and an EM-1. Guess what; I have to use that ole 0-10-0 switcher on these sometimes! I made a double length KATO re-railer that works well but not in some tight places. Always, have fun, Carl
During ops session, I try to limit the use to quick rerailings (if necessary). Between sessions, when I’m restaging the layout, I like to use N Scale power when I have time, but I will use 0-5-0 power if I am pressed for time to restage. I will also use the 0-5-0 when I don’t want to power up the layout, but I need to move blocks of cars to clean the track under them.
I use the 1-4-0 (One Thumb, Four Fingers, No Toes) for uncoupling, turning items around 180 degrees, rerailing, recoupling (there's the odd drop of a Bachmann Spectrum heavyweight passenger car due to their terrible droopy couplers), and to provide a quick helper when things bog down on a grade.
I don't have a DCC equipped "Big Hook" with all operating features to lift and place back on the rails any derailments which occurs on my railroad, so yes, I do use GHA. What scale? HO Do you use GHA? Yes When anyone is looking? Yes, if people are around, they certainly can watch me do it! For more than re-railing? For what ever needs gettin' done! Under what circumstances? It's my railroad, I do what ever I like!
I have to so that the trains move. Started at a young age. And then I have this hidden away and only pull it out when I am alone.
I have proof that I often use GHA. This time at the Mississippi Coast Model Rail Museum. Unlike the rest of you, I have a witness. LOL I love kids around this age. Their minds are sponges, they absorb everything they see. They might not remember anything specific, but years from now they'll have a vision or memory of something fun about trains.
In my case it had to be ten-fingered. 1) it's N-Scale, and 2) my fingers don't work that well. Gimme a break, I'm 84. LOL Though being honest, I think he outranked me mentally.
If ya'll are talking of what I think you are, I don't use it. But, have watched it being used along the east coast of Wisconsin and even in the Army by the truckers and such.
um, not the "you're number one in my book" salute. We are talking about using your hand(s) to move model railroad equipment on and off of your layout, or manually coupling or uncoupling your trains...
