I have to say I quite like the CF7's, but not too sure about the RS3/GP9!

    Bob,

    Amen!
Here's a relic I dug from my archives from my days at Minot, ND:

    Wow, nice shot!

I have one of those cars in HO scale on my layout- one Athearn songle-dome tank car, black & yellow paint, the correct decal set from Oddballs Decals, plus Kadee couplers, and viola- one Frisco diesel fuel tank car!

And amazingly, Athearn is offering this very same car in HO in their R-T-R line. The dome is too short, but I don't get worked up over it.

As to that RS2M, remember that the unit operated long-hood-forward, like it did before rebuilding. Having that much metal between you & the front end was good for safety, but lousy for vision.

Only reason Frisco re-engined their five RS2s and some of their FA1/FB1s was the Alco prime mover- the 244 engine had a problem with weak crankshafts that tended to fail under load. The re-engined (a new 16-567 prime mover from EMD) diesels hung around a bit longer than those that kept their original power plants.

At least one RS2M was painted Mandarin orange & white- the rest stayed in their black colors until retirement.
