    Hey Gang.
I noticed that there was a hell of a lot of interest shown in the topic of Free Lance Railroads on the HO Forum. [IMG]
I was wondering how many of us N Scale modellers also have our own free lance railroads.

Mine is the Central of Colorado, which has taken over lines in the Colorado Springs area, including the old Rock Island line (apologies to those interested in Kyle Railroad)to Kansas City and Lincoln. It also has running rights on the Joint Line and a couple of fictional lines west of Colorado Springs. [IMG]
This way I can run what ever locomotive type that I like, especially Alco FA2s lash ups.

How many of us have also formatted our "own" railroads.

    Ron,

Have a look at the traiN'ternet web site. There, you'll be able to see several freelance model railroads.

Check out the CEE Line RR at www.members.iquest.net/~leghome/index/html
This is my own formated RR although it does run on trackage of others railroads. All the other roads are real or at least were real at one time. Most are fallen flags but who cares about what is where. It is MY railraod and I will run on it what ever in the heck I want.

You see Ron, we are all Free-Lancers, operating in a prototypical manner if it suits us! Just like you. Now fess up. there has been some time or other that you simply hit the juice and poped a wheely just to see something run. Man, that isn't prototype!!
So I guess we are the Bad A$$ Bikers of THE Rails! [IMG]

  7. Well, since we're posting sites…

You can see the description of the ECI along with a storyboard photo layout at my site (see my Sig for the URL). The name, paint and background is free-lanced built around railroad lines that are and used to be. To avoid nitpickers, I renamed my city and put in the buildings and structures that I wanted to keep in the city that it represents. Banks and companies that no longer exist are still alive and well in Henderson.

I took the tour of your rail empire Roger! It is delightfully done! I especially like the artistry of your logo. My old boss at Accurate Box and Finishing Corp. was always designing logos and monograms and worried about how to keep it simple to produce, yet make it appeal to the public! You achieved that very well. Good job on the trees and rolling stock!

    Roger,
I like your East Central Indiana Railrod very much. You have done a great job on the Logo and paint job.
My layout only gets to see the light of day at model railway exhibitions on this side of the pond, so I don't get much of a chance to photograph it. Apart from which, I can't afford a digital camera just yet. I have got some photo's showing the basic layout, but they are not of the standard that I would like to put on a website.

My layout is designed to give an impression of the Colorado Joint Line between the 1960's and early 1980s. However, since none of the genuine operators on the line have the locomotives that I like, e.g. Alco FA2 and other such like, I decided to add a futher operator to the area. I have cheated when it comes to decaling the locomotives, I got hold of some old British Railways locomotive decals in both N and HO Scale, turned they through 180 degress and stuck them on. Unless you really scrutinize the model, you can't tell the difference and they look ok. I shall have to construct a site giving more details, including roster, etc.

Alan, like your layout as well. It does look good.

A scale heard from even less in the freelance arena is "S". I plan on modeling a short line on the western slope of the Sierra and named of course "Sierra Western." It will have a short line operation, meaning no signals, all train orders. Motive power will be a mixture of Sierra Baldwins and WP power on lease and maybe a couple of SP units. Most of the units are readily available in S and a wide range of rolling stock has been gathered. Now to get the garage cleared out and some bench work put up.

Bridge route around NY City. Get a free pass, maps, history, photo tours, and LIRR interchange stuff.

    Best, Steve

Strange, it's always here when I sign on. Let's stick to the subject and if you have any concerns about the site, post it at the ADMIN-FORUM. [IMG]

watash - see my answer in the other thread where you asked. If that happens again to you, hold down your 'shift' key and press 'reload' on your browser (while holding that down).

Hey welcome to Free-Lance Hysteriaville, Greg! I tried 'S' a little, when I went away to boarding school during the war,WWII, I roomed with a kid who was in HO. My dad liked HO and when I got home, he had a layout all ready to go, so we traded the S for HO. Enjoy [IMG]
