These pictures are taken from a viewpoint at the Cisco Briges area of the canyon.
The first shows a train approaching the tunnel leading to the bridge. [IMG]

The next picture is zoomed in for a closer look.

Note how the tunnel is designed as a partial shed for rock slides in summer and snow in winter.

After passing through the tunnel the train crosses the bridge.
I couldn't get any more of the bridge as it was blocked by trees.

Where you took your first photo is where BC Rail King and I camp when we rail fan the Cisco Bridges. We usually spend two nights there. I often return tired as we are camping close to the tracks and they are very active during the night hours, waking us up. In the late evening you can see the Via go through here all lit up, and on rare occassion the CP business train in its old maroon and grey colours on the F unit.

I know what you mean by restless nights camping near the track Rick. We experienced it at Lake Louise. This may not be the appropriate forum to post this as it is the Rocky Mountaineer passing through. Our stop here was just a lunch break and it was surprising how much rail traffic there is.

There are approximately 50 trains a day (CP and CN), whereas in Banff, there would have been only about half that number (CP only). Even though it is busy, you can be at the Cisco Bridges for hours and see nothing. By the time, you get fed up and walk to your car, three trains have gone by...lol.

Next time you go, email and I will give you some other rail fan locations and fun things to do in that area. Cheers!

Sorry for the double post, trainboard is responding sluggishly lately. When I post it doesn't seem to take, after a minute or two, I hit the reply button again, and bingo, a double post....lol.

Recently traffic has declined to about 30 trains a day ( a number getting tossed around at another discussion group) becuase there was cancellations in a coal contract CN had about 2 months ago, and there is a general decline of Canadian National/Pacific rail traffic by about 33%

    Great looking pictures!

    Happy Railroading!

Reduced traffic or not, I would be delighted to camp alongside the tracks and be kept awake by trains :D

Thanks for the pics Robin [IMG]
