SP/SSW Finding former SP locomotives...

This picture was taken October 2007 in Houston. It was the last time I saw a pair of old SP locomotives together. The speed lettered unit had small GATX letters under the windows.

 

Here's a former SP unit in shiny MRL paint (notice all the reflections)......someone still loves them!!

 

Espee SD-9's

The Port of Tillamook Bay has several former Espee SD-9's on the property. Most have been repainted into POTB Black & White.
At this time the road is shut down account storm damage in the Salmonberry River canyon.
Some of the SD-9's are on the eastern end and some landlocked in Tillamook. From last reports the repairs to the roadbed are underway with operation hoped for in April 2K+9.

I think there is a pair of SP SD9's in Chadron, NE. They are ISLX 1374 & ISLX 1384.

 

Here are a couple that have been switching in the Grand Junction yard recently.

SP 7780 when it was running....



After a while it lookded like it was done for, side lined by engine trouble.

 

7750 certainly has an unusual UP patch. I don't think I've seen that kind before.

 

Here's an unpatched Cotton Belt unit I came across in Ft Worth TX 1-31-09

 

old SP units

These units are now owned by the Utah Railway. They were the MK5000c's. They were reuilt into what are now known as the MK-50's. Pretty much a glorified SD50. the UR owns all of the old MK5000c's. Also the Utah State Railroad museum has two old SP units an GP9 and an SD45.

Ok here is two more. The first photo of 1331 was taken in Ogden in 1957. The second was taken around the same time.

 

An un-patched SP 192 in Glenwood Springs, CO on 11/7/09.



And an un-patched SP 266 working on the derailment at Dotsero, CO on 10/11/2009.

i just saw former cotton belt SD45T-2 9400 with SP Speed lettering at Winton Place in Cincinatti Ohio it is in service with the I&O Railroad

 

Her U go a couple of unpatched Tunnel Motors found in Eastern Colorado
