Well, after some fancy horse tradin' [IMG] (something the members of my club are know for. Hey bnfan99, RoyalBlue wants his GM SD40 leaser. [IMG] HA!) I finally got me a BN SD40-2 from Kato. The only problem is that silly coupler installed in it. Anyone know what MT coupler replaces it. I want it to have the shortest shank possible.

    WHOOPS! I guess this isn't Topic #100, maybe 101?

Congrats on the 100th topic it just goes to show how much interest there is in N scale and why not it is the scale for the future. In regards to your SD40-2 I used 2004 couplers but still had to file out the pilot box of the loco as it was a tight fit. You probably could use 1015 as well but you still would need to file.

Will the shanks be short enough? I HATE LONG SHANKS! I really like the loco's to couple together nice and close, just like the real thing ya' know. [IMG] Like I said before, I think this is actully topic #101. I think the SD90 topic was posted before this one. Oh well, it's still a Milestone!

Brent, a friend fitted 1015 couplers to his SD40-2, and had to file out the opening some. None of the couplers will give prototypical coupling distances, unless they can be set back inside the pilot a bit - and on the SD40 they definitely can not! Clearance between the coupler box and the truck is extremely tight. The 1015 would be the closest coupling I would think.
